Moodiness *SIGH*

How the hell do you cope with it?

I have one of the most radical mood swings ever,,,and worst of all, I don't know what causes them or why they happen to begin with.

I don't know if its stress(which I don't suffer that much from) or just plain nature.

I really hate them,,,,,they embarrass me, and it scares me to know that they get wrose with age disbelief sigh

I thought about seeking therapy but between work, college and my kids,,,,I don't have that much time.

Beside, I've seen how anti-depressants alter people's personalities to the point where they can't function without them,,,,I don't wanna dig a deeper hole with that.

If you're thinking of medication, have you ever tried St. John's Wort? I wasn't having anger or moodinness issues so much as anxiety from when I was sick with my apendix and didn't know what's wrong. I took it for 5 years and I'm telling you it took the edge down several notches so I was functional. Might give it a try, it's natural so it can't hurt smile

Your post really spoke to how I am feeling right now. I just had to shut the door to my office because I could not handle the sound of my co-workers voices. I feel like my mood swings are getting worse. I don't want meds. I just try to take good care of myself until it passes.

Me too!

It ain't like I heard stories,,,,I've actually seen people who suffer from manic depression and HOW desparate they get to get a fix so they could simply get outta bed sigh

Thanx for the tips ya'll,,,,,it is scary when you consider yourself one of the "outsiders looking in" as far as depression is concern, untill you end up being one of its victims.

I also take St. John's Wort and it's helped a lot. My moodiness and depression stems from these long cold winters. Sometimes I just want to be to myself and I allow that time for just me. A good (funny) movie, book, favorite drink for just me. Exercise also helps.

But if your feeling this all day, every day it could be some sort of imbalance.

I hope you feel better soon!

I know it sounds simplistic, but I would say it's a matter of perspective. In his excellent book, The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again), Warhol reveals that he learned to control depression (and/or anger, I would suppose) by asking the question, "So what?":

"I was walking in Bali, and saw a bunch of people in a clearing having a ball because somebody they really liked had just died, and I realized that everything was just how you decided to think about it. Sometimes people let the same problems make them miserable for years when they should just say 'So what.' That's one of my favorite things to say. So what.

"'My mother didn't love me.' So what.

"'My husband won't ball me.' So what.

"'I'm a success, but I'm still alone.' So what.

"I don't know how I made it through all the years before I learned how to do that trick. It took a long time for me to learn it, but once you do you never forget."

OK, a friend of mine was complaining to his doctor about being on the rag big time and the doctor asked his caffeie intake. His doctor told him he thought it was contributing to his flippedoutness and asked him to stop caffeine altogether for a certain period of time, with the expectation that he would have withdrawals but to stick it out until his prescribed amount of time to let the body be fully caffeine free and my friend said the difference in his mood was night and day!

eek

Girl, do you have a percolater IV? lol

You know...you may be very right. I should try and go cold turkey.
But I have been very stressed with life lately, and I am not one to make my life more difficult when it is already stressed. It probably would do a world of good. Thanks!

Hey Harle, I'm sorry you're going through this and feeling this way. I know from what my mother told me the St. John Wort is also in massage oil form, and essential oil form and flower essence form (shes an aroma therpaist) as for the tablets she's not familar with those, as for sideffects she said there shouldn't be too many, although it was medically studied that it can reduce the effect of birth control pills. Aside for depression it has a lot of other pros so maybe you can look into it more and give it a shot, you can also hit me up on PM if you wanna talk to someone outside of everything. Good luck miss.

you may become more sensitive to the sun and it may cause hair loss

I started taking it in June when I had this real bad anxiety attack and was diagnosed with OCD. The attack triggered a deep depression and I lost 10 lbs in barely 2 weeks. I started taking St. Johns immediately after that along with 5 weeks of therapy, I was feeling ALOT better.

I don't take it much due to it making my skin more sensitive to the sun and sense I already have skin issues, I don't need anymore lol I also take Omega 3 and other vitamins now

If I were you I'd speak to my doctor and get a referral to a mental health counselor or psychiatrist. Could be that you're bipolar or it could just be that you need to learn positive coping skills to deal with stress.

Either way, you shouldn't be embarrassed. Many people have things they need a professional's help with. I think the only "wrong" thing to do here would be to not get it checked by a physician.
