Barack Obama is the seventh left-handed president. The others: James Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Bill Clinton.

I am left-handed also.

i understand....
my mom, my dad
4 of their 6 children
and 3 of 6 grand children that i'm sure of
there's 4 i'm not too sure...
my dad was old enough to be punished for using his left hand.. eek
so he can use both, as can i, mostly for drawing and painting not for writing too much really..

my dad was punished for using his left hand.

when i was in kindergarten, my teacher tried to "recondition" me to be right-handed, and she didn't inform my parents of her efforts. meanwhile, my parents were completely accepting of me being a lefty, but were confused as to why i was so mixed up with directions that my mom had to literally paint "LEFT" and "RIGHT" on the toes of my shoes.

when they found out what my teacher was doing, they were HOT. johnwoo

i think my sister's youngest son was also to be left handed (both of his brothers are)but i caught her hubby more than a few times literally taking whatever it was out of his left hand and into his right
he's seven now and i noticed that last time i was there he was sort of using both.. eek eats with the right, but drinks with the left uses a crayon or pencil with either
good lord poor kid!! when i went to the lake and took him and his left handed brothers..when we were eating,he looked at all of us and switched his fork over.. giggle
did it rather well... touched

Do people still do stupid shit like this?

sadly yes... i commented on the same and then saw your ???
i wanted to actually hit the 'man'
i've heard it can cause problems to make them use a hand their brain isn't wired to handle...i also believe my younger son was/is left handed, but his dad did the same thing, and kept making him use his right hand when i wasn't around
he still sometimes picks up a pen/pencil with his left hand and goes to write with it,then switches to his right.i've picked up a pen and initialed or written my name..with my right hand...

Born a lefty, which made my dad happy since he is a lefty. Then in school they made me use my right hand. Something about only having right handed scissors.
BS really but now I can use both for most things. Not so good at writing with the left anymore. Have to play left handed guitar I have found out, right feels too awkward.

Man, that sucked at school. They'd have two lefty pairs and 70 righty pairs so you had to fight for a lefty pair. johnwoo

My dad asked them why they made me start writing with my right hand and they said they did not have any left handed scissors. My dad told them he would buy a dozen left handed scissors for them. They said no that it was good to be right handed and that I was picking it up quickly.

I knew a left handed girl who's teachers tied her pencil to her right hand. And this was only 8 or so years ago. Her parents took her out of the school.

I do most things right-handed but some things left.

When I played softball I batted left handed (but threw the ball right handed).
I play mini golf mostly left-handed, but I can play both ways fairly equally.
In pool, I can shoot left handed if I need to, but generally play right handed.
When I tried skateboarding, it was natural for me to be “goofy foot”, or lefty.
Same with snowboarding, but I would switch stance all the time.

When I was a teenager I practiced writing with my left hand cause I thought it would be cool to be totally ambidextrous. And to this day I write OK with my left hand. It’s legible, at least.

I'm lefty as well.

My dad was left-handed, but now is ambidextrous after the nuns tied his left hand around his back in elementary school and forced him to write the "correct" way.

Cross dominance!

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...-dominance

Cross-dominance, also known as mixed-handedness, mixed dominance, or hand-confusion, is a motor skill manifestation where a person favors one hand for some tasks and the other hand for others. For example, a cross-dominant person might write with the left hand but throw primarily with the right. Ambidexterity is a well-known but amazingly rare variant of cross-dominance, but cross-dominant people may also be left or right-handed rather than ambidextrous.
It can also refer to mixed laterality, which refers to a person favoring eyes, ears, feet, or hands on one side of the body. A person who is Cross-dominant can also be stronger on the opposite side of the body that they favor; for example, a right-handed person can be stronger on the left side. Cross-dominance can often be a problem when shooting or in activities that require aim.
Famous cross-dominant people

• Leonardo da Vinci - Renaissance artist and scientist
• Albert Einstein - Scientist
• Richard Feynman - Scientist
• Oscar Wilde - Playwriter and poet
• Nikola Tesla - Inventor
• Michelangelo - Artist
• Benjamin Franklin - Scientist
• Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi - Religious and political leader
• Ludwig van Beethoven - composer

Wow, thanks for the info. I play darts with left mainly but can do with my right as well, bowling is the same. Most of the time when I do things with my left hand I do not notice until someone says, "I did not know you were left handed?".
