Henman made the semifinals of the other 3 slams besides the Australian (including Wimbledon 4 times). Murray has only been to the semifinals of 1 (last year's U.S. Open, although he did make it to the final). He's a long way away from emulating Henman.

Not really fair comparing a post-career Henman to an early-career Murray

I was just addressing the notion some people have that Murray has already surpassed Henman. He may very well do so, but at this point in his career he's only bested Tim in one area (reaching a slam final).

I was hoping for Gonzalez and Dementieva to win. Oh well- both played quite well. That Gonzelez-Gasquet match was the most exciting tennis match I've ever seen!

Good luck to Serena and Roger!

I must say, though, that any tournament in which Lleyton Hewitt loses in the first round is a GREAT tournament! lol

My father-in-law and I have our own dance for when Lleyton loses and we joke that he is the ballboy, and that's the only way he's invited to play.

Serena is ranked 2 for the moment, Jankovic was 1 as shes had a more consistent 12 months. Whoever wins the final will be the new number 1. Should be a great match if Safina can keep it together but if Serena is playing her best no one can beat her, (except maybe Venus on grass)

Consistency isn't one of Serena's best traits and that's why I don't like her - if she loses a final, almost without exception she's "injured" the next few weeks. She's obviously got ego problems, in addition to the considerable weight she has nowadays. If Safina can get her to run back anf forth across the court, she'll be finished in no time in that heat.
Saying that if she plays at her best nobody can beat her is very much like asking a person "have you stopped beating your wife?" - there's no answer that's sufficient.

The answer to your first question is yes. As for the second, she will be (again) soon enough. Regardless, the rankings are mostly irrelevant because they value consistency over excellence. Serena is playing in her 3rd consecutive slam final.

Whether she's the best player in the world is obviously subjective. Hence there is no correct answer to the question. shrug

If that's what you choose to believe, more power to you. Objectively, her 9 slam titles are 3 times more than any active player besides Venus (who has 7). In fact, all of the other active players have only 12 slam titles combined (and that's only if you consider Davenport [3] and Pierce [2] as "active"). Even more telling, Serena has a winning record against every major player against whom she's played more than 2 matches (except Venus, with whom she's tied). shrug

Sad to see Verdasco double fault to lose. Nadal was the picture of class the way he went over the net and hugged Verdasco,

That was just a GREAT match!

Congrats to Serena! I love the Williams' sisters! They won doubles, too, no?

Ok.. my Rafa.. I think he does not have much of a chance. I saw his match with Fernando. It was a amazing. But even Rafa said he was going to try his best against Roger. Rafa seemed tired, and just happy to make it into the final. Of course, anything can happen, but the way Roger is playing, I just do not think Rafa has a chance.

I love them both though. I also like Andy Roddick now! I think he is so funny. I like the way he handles the press. He does not take anything off of some of these reporters who try to be rude to him and other players. I really like Andy now!

Serena! woot!

Serena Williams is now all alone in 8th place all time with 10 Grand Slam singles titles. She and her sister Venus also won their 8th Grand Slam doubles title.

I actually thought she was higher than that - or is that ranking for men's & women's titles?

I was happy to see her win. A tighter match would have been nice, but a completely dominating performance like that has a certain artistry to it. lol
