I'm a big believer in 'In Vino Veritas'. So if someone uses 'being drunk' to explain away something nasty they did, I tend to think that it's their true character showing through a veneer of bullshit.

Yeah, I think sometimes that can be true and others not at ALL. There are alcoholics who become comepletely different people when they drink and I don't believe the drunk personna is their "true character" at all.

I see what you're saying, but I am not sure I agree. I think that happens to bad alcoholics the most, and maybe what you're seeing is a terrible but true aspect of their personality. Maybe it's just the part that is poisoned by the alcohol, but it's real as it rears its head time and time again.

I don't think so, though, as it's something they'd never do or be if not for the alcohol.

I take your point - alcoholics are a special case as they've got an addiction and that leads to all sorts of irrational behaviour.

I meant the average person who gets drunk and starts fights, steals things, cheats on or abuses their significant other - that kind of stuff - and then tries to explain it away.

And nasty as opposed to stupid, as we've probably all done stooopid things when drunk. I certainly have. biggrin (Nothing too nasty though)
