Since this thread has 6 times as many viewers as contributors, I'm just going to go out on a limb and say it: most dudes reading this thread want to know exactly WHAT constitutes dressing sexy at the office, promotion or not.

I don't think it would do much good. I'm in the art world where women employees far outnumber men and most of the men are gay anyway. But I agree with CarrieMpls that how you dress does have an impact on how you are perceived. My mom always told me to dress for the level of job I want to have. It's hard for me to do that, though, because I have a limited wardrobe budget, and I HATE wearing suits/skirts etc. I'm always running late in the morning and those outfits take too much time: stockings, ironing, etc. I usually stick to a dress pants and sweater "uniform."

It wouldn't matter if I did. I work for a casual apparel company. Dress too well and you stick out like a sore thumb. And most of the people in the upper levels of the company are women, anyway
