i have to fire 8 people this week and cut 15 others from full time to part time as part of corporate mandate, 10 percent of our workforce is to terminated immediately and another 20% will be reduced in hours. anyone with reduction in hours will lose their benefits because they are no longer ful time.
i'm supposed to be on vacation, but i'm going back early to help my boss (and best friend) break the news to these great employees.

It often makes me wonder how did our economy get to be so bad? When exactly did all of this start? while i'm on it, I should research this. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I know it's about cost and the workforce is the highest cost of a company, I'm not stupid But the workforce is also the biggest capital of the company. It's an abberation if you cut down 10% of your workforce but don't look at your own out of the ordinary salary and benefits (for what? because you cut down 10% of the workforce and saved the company for another quarter ?). Great leaders, great CEO's are people persons, they make a difference on that level. Anybody can look at charts and numbers and run numbers through algorithms. Not everybody can work with people.

Dig deep, do alot of research, u'll see I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Ex-Moderator | Sorry to hear. It's a rough time we're all going though and I fear it's going to get much worse before it gets better.
My own company announced to us a month ago that all managers at a certain level and everyone above will not be getting any raises this year so that the rest of us can expect at least something, but it will be very minimal compared to our usual annual increase. We've not discussed lay-offs yet, but it can only be around the corner. |

It's standard practice to include rehire terms in termination procedures. I'm not sure mentioning the hiring conditions upon rehire though ... If they worked their way from the top down, that's a good start. How many managers are left ? For how many people ?

For how many people ? 6 managers for approximately 50 employees...after the purge. but honestly, my boss and myself are the only two that i consider well rounded problem solvers... we've all had more responsibilities piled on our plate, and the others haven't quite caught up to speed.i'm guessing the on'e who can't adjust to this leaner machine will be the next to go

That blows
We can relate Michael had to let 2 more people in his department go this week - now understand that this is a very small town and we know almost everyone he works with on a personal level. All our kids know each other and we have community events and sports all together. It really sucks

applekisses said: BlueZebra said: who comes up with those numbers ? Finance people. right around christmas, we were using $22,00 per week in payroll.then that number got cut in subsequent weeks to 20k, 17k and then down to 15k--same amount of employees, but 7k less in budget. if the people we were letting go were young i wouldn't feel as bad, because the likelyhood that they can find something else is better than the one's who are getting terminated--they're all over 55 years old and have been with the company at least ten years.
