Change Jar

Our son Seth gave us a self counting Change Jar as a gift biggrin We have always used a change jar though this is our 1st self counting one lol

Anyway - we started using it on Jan 1, our family of 4 and already today we have $92.50 inside and it's only 1/4 of the way full smile

When our jar gets filled we use that extra cash to do a family event like dinner and movies or whatever. We have been doing this since Michael and I were married !

Do you have a change jar ? What do you use it for and are you amazed how fast it adds up ? eek

Of course, that’s a lot of you contributing.

I have a Chinese cat bank that I put all of my quarters in for laundry money. lol I make a point to use cash so I can acquire the quarters I need when laundry day comes.
The rest of my change I use up as much as I can, nickels, dimes and pennies. I’m totally that annoying person in front of you in line counting out her exact change. Unless I’m in need of quarters, that is.

I'm very much like this. I'm like Rain Man when it comes to getting quarters back, which always confuses the cashier. But if my purchase comes to, say, $9.62, I know that if I give them $10.12, I'll get two quarters back. I'm all about getting the quarters.

I started one the first week in January. I'm going to try to keep it going.
I rarely use cash to pay for things,so I dont get change back most of the time.

In the past I used my change to buy sweets. boxed

I use credit or debit cards for almost everything these days. Any coins I get usually go in the car ashtray for meters. Coppers, 5s and 10s go in a tray with keys sometimes and very infreqnetly get taken to the bank.

My son has just started to get intrested in money so I have told him any bits of money he finds in the house he can put in a jar in his bedroom. Now when I tell him he can have the DVD when he pays for it, he will say I HAVE money daddy, in my jar!

We've got an empty water cooler bottle that we throw all our change in. We've had to move it to our bedroom closet because the kids like to go in it when no one is looking. rolleyes

oh yeah, our debit purchases round up to the nearest dollar and the change goes into our savings account too. It's like a virtual change jar!

See we used to have one/do that too - then I figured quick that if we made it a Fam savings for Fam events the kids added to it instead of taking from it

Yeah (I hate carrying change). I keep a container near the front door and usually empty my pockets when I get home. When the thing gets full, the money goes to the bank.

yup nod

I keep my silver change in this bank..

And all my pennies are in this..

The last time I counted my pennies I had almost $300.00. I started doing this, because I was curious to how much money in pennies the jar would hold. smile
