I am uncomfortable with the idea of me needing to be taken care of. Men are silly little creatures anyway. I'm simply too demanding and way too independent to be under anyone's thumb. I enjoy being the one who takes care of most things, my husband is more of the nurturer than I. Just worked out that way.

My sister is a gazillionaire. She's never worked, she's never had to. She has 80 exotic birds that she breeds for fun. That's her hobby. She is ordered around by her husband daily, and is questioned with every purchase she makes.

Ummm, no thanks.

I was talking to a friend a while back and he said to me that some guys may be intimidated by me because they can't give me anything/do anything for me (I have my own money, car, home, etc.). I countered with they can give me love and companionship.

Do guys still want a woman they can take care of? Do guys have a problem with a chick that makes more than them? Do some guys want their women to stay home?

I truly don't understand that mode of thinking. From my perspective, relationships are much easier when the woman has her own.

An independent woman who's got her own takes pressure off the man. I get tired of having to initiate everything and the one doing most of the work. Been there, done with that shit.

It’s unrealistic in this day and age for a woman NOT to work. Most people don’t make enough money to support a family on a single income and if they DO, then what happens when they get divorced (as the majority of couples do)? One of them has been out of the workforce for years. How do you re-enter at square one and expect to make enough of a salary to keep up your accustomed standard of living?

And how am I not gonna have my own at age 33? wtf? lol Who's gonna take care of me if NOT myself?

If, hypothetically, the woman defined her worth by what she had and my relative worth by what I had, I'd not be intimidated, but disgusted and utterly incompatible with her -- whether she had more or less than me.

On the other hand, if the woman had certain things -- e.g. material wealth, professional security, education, etc. -- that I didn't have, but brought them to the relationship to complement the things I, in turn, presented likewise (which is pretty much how my marriage does work), I'd be thrilled with that. Ultimately, I want a partner, not a sugar mama, another daughter to raise or some love/hate competitor with whom I'm always keeping score.
