Test of a Real D-I-V-A

Ok ok we all know the term DIVA has lost its lustre and is applied in a generic fashion to anyone that puts out a CD. However the test of a True/Real DIVA is:
Vocal power that makes everyone stand up and take notice in other words (other DIVA's make room on the stage for one more)
Commanding stage presence taking ownership of the mic and taking the audience to another place vocally (in other words leaving them wanting more without realizing it has been an almost religious experience)
Attitude and confidence (not arrogance and cockiness)
No gimicks in delivery of a song (i.e..enchanced tracks, lipping the words during EVERY live performance)
Topping the extremes of superstardom (Picture everywhere, tabliods included)
Becoming a household name even if for just a brief time.
Wearing at least once during an appearance a suite of diamond jewelry worth more than most peoples homes. (the less you wear and the more it cost the more of a mega status you hold ask Tiffanys or Cartier)
Having a few dramatic events that test the fabric of Divadom (breakdown, drugs, alcholism, divorce, being sued by your children and of course IRS and Tax Troubles) recovering only to fall into something else only to recover and take the spotlight again.
Having a major influence on musical style (in other words having others that follow you imitate or try to duplicate your success either directly or indirectly)
Being compared to legends and then becoming a living legend.
stay tuned the test continues...wink smile biggrin :p

Amen rolleyes

To me a diva is: a fat lady with lots of money that wears weird colorfull outfits and big trashy diamonds. Her face is full of make up and her voice is screamy.

LOL nah 4 real, to me, a "DIVA" is a much more revered, time-honored, talented person who has lived the test of time and consistently produces high quality and exceptional work.

Tina Turner & Patti Labelle resmble this term 2 the fullest. I really can't think of anyone else and please don't tell me Aretha or Diana rolleyes

There are actually a specific group of people at EVERY Paisley show that most people just refer to as the DIVAS because they act as if they own the place.

Tom

I always thought real divas were like opera singers or classically trained singers, something like that.

I'm so so glad gay clubs have chilled out from playing that screaming diva music like Pepper Mashay and Jennifer Holiday. You know, the ones with some sassy loudmouthed woman screaming out some song where she's telling off her man. Those kinds of dance songs give me an insane headache.
