Looks like the end of the road 4 Sam Cassell.

The Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal with the Boston Celtics on Monday night, a league source told ESPN.com. The Celtics will send Sam Cassell and cash to the Kings for a future second-round pick.
Barring any changes overnight, the deal is expected to be finalized Tuesday afternoon with the league office.

The deal helps the Celtics by removing Cassell's salary from the team's luxury-tax computations. The Kings give up virtually nothing to do it as the pick is heavily protected. Furthermore, another league source says the deal could pave the way for the Celtics to add another player to their roster prior to the playoffs. The Celtics had a maximum of 15 players on their current roster.

Cassell hasn't played a game for the Celtics this season, but he's been an important veteran voice in the locker room. While it's unclear what the Kings will do with Cassell, most likely they'll waive him.

The end comes for everybody. Cassell was a money player, now he's just a voice.

I heard Chris Broussard talk about this yesterday. he said NO wanted to shed his payroll, and that he hadn't been playing at a level justifying his contract. That is a surprise, though, he acquitted himself well in the playoffs.

The T-Chandler trade was strictly economical....if he would've stayed, the Hornets would've had to pay the luxury tax (they would be at $77 million in salary), which in these strange economic times they assert they couldn't afford..my problem with the trade is that they're barely at .500 when he's out, but are 21-9 and give up almost 4 points less on D with him in the lineup...he had too much potential for continued improvement to give him up for a couple of stiffs just to save a buck....

The way the season has gone, I thought they'd have to work to get decent positioning for the playoffs....now, it looks like they'll be 8th seed cannon fodder, if they make it at all....CP3 is the man, but he can't carry this team for the next 32 games by himself....

NBA.com is reporting that Chicago has traded Andres Nocioni and Drew Gooden to the Kings for John Salmons and Brad Miller. That's a definite step up for the Bulls!

Salmons is a lethal scorer (18.3 PPG this season), and Brad Miller is still leagues better than that scrub Joakim Noah.

NEWSFLASH....woot!

Thunder reject Chandler, trade off

-----
ESPN.com news services

The New Orleans Hornets decided to trade Tyson Chandler to clear some cap space and add depth to the frontcourt. They'll have to go back to the drawing board.

The Hornets announced on Wednesday that the Oklahoma City Thunder did not medically clear the center and therefore rescinded the trade. Chandler would have gone to the Thunder for forwards Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith.

"We welcome Tyson back with open arms," Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement. "We went into this trade to garner more frontcourt depth to add to our team as we continue our push towards the playoffs. We expect Tyson and the rest of our big guys to step up to the challenge."

Chandler, who is averaging 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds this season, has been bothered by foot problems and has played in only 32 games. He is set to make $12.3 million next season.

I meant to ask ya'll two All Star Questions:

1.What's your favorite All Star Game of all time?
2.What's your favorite play in All Star History?

My game has to be the 1987 game in Seattle when Rolando Blackmon hit the free throws to send it to OT, it was a great game.

There's alot of plays I hit the rewind button on in my collection:

Magic's no look, behind the shoulder pass on the break to Hakeem in the 1988 game

Barkley serving up a facial to Mutumbo in the 1992 Game

Ewing serving up a facial to Mr. Robinson in the 1991 game

Magic giving Buck Williams a facial in the 1982 game

but my favorite play has to be Dr. J's tomahawk one handed slam on Artis Gilmore in the 1983 game, he damn near took off from the free throw line on him, lol!!

1 - Magic's return
2 - In the same AS game, when Maj took on Zeke and MJ at the end of the game

Both cool shit.

Chicago Bulls trade Larry Hughes to Knicks for three players
By K.C. Johnson | Tribune reporter
12:15 PM CST, February 19, 2009
The Bulls finally found a home for Larry Hughes.

Amusingly enough, it took bringing back formerly banished Bull Tim Thomas to do so.

Multiple league sources confirmed that the Bulls traded Hughes to the Knicks for Thomas, seldom-used big man Jerome James and Anthony Roberson, pending league approval.

The Bulls first acquired Thomas in the emotional Eddy Curry trade in October 2005. Shortly thereafter, management sent Thomas home for his poor practice habits. They eventually waived Thomas in March 2006.

Drew Gooden in action Photos "I played with Tim for a couple years and had him in Phoenix. I didn't have any problem with him. I enjoyed playing with him," Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. "That was a long time ago. I'll sit down and talk to Tim, tell him what I expect from him, what his role is. I expect him to be professional and go do his job. He has the ability to help us."

Thomas and James both have one season remaining on their contracts, assuming James exercises his player option of $6.6 million. Given that he rarely plays, that would seem to be a formality.

Hughes' deal for next season is $13.65 million. Thomas is scheduled to make $6.4 million.

The Dish: Magic nab Rockets' Alston in last-minute deal
By David Aldridge, TNT analyst
Posted Feb 19 2009 3:55PM

Just before the deadline, a three-way deal was consummated between Orlando, Houston and Memphis that sent Rockets guard Rafer Alston to the Magic, with Memphis guard Kyle Lowry and Orlando forward Brian Cook going to the Rockets. Memphis is getting a future first-round pick from Orlando as part of the deal.

The move is big for the Magic, which has been reeling since the shoulder injury to starting point guard Jameer Nelson that is likely to keep him out the rest of the season. Alston has been a starter in Houston the past two seasons and brings toughness and defense most every night, but the Rockets believe that second-year guard Aaron Brooks is their point guard of the future and have been looking to move either Alston or Luther Head for the past few months.

The Rockets are going to miss Alston, at least for this year, but maybe they figure they're not going anywhere without T-Mac.
