Satellite Radio question

I'm thinking having satellite radio installed in my wife's car is a nice gift for the holidays, but...

a) will satellite radio be around 3 years from now

b) what's a good basic satellite radion?...i'd like to be able to bring it into the house and listen to it too.,...

thanks for your help!

I think it'll still be around three years from now. I made the switch to it for Howard Stern, and I've come to enjoy it for many reasons. I know it's not exactly doing great, but I still think it's going to succeed.

I don't have a car now, but I did a couple years ago, when I first got Sirius, and it was easy to find a player that you could easily transfer from the car to the house. Now I just listen over the web. But I would think they still have the kind that switch back and forth.

yeah, it's gonna be around....

here's a site that has just about anything you need to get started...
www.tss-radio.com

I love satellite...no commercials on music channels, great talk and news channels, comedy, tons of sports coverage....it's unbeatable...

also check xm's and sirius' websites....since the companies have merged, there's somedthing for everybody...

It will be around. I made the switch about 4 years ago when I started listening to it on my parents home satellite. I, personally enjoyed XM more than Sirius. Mostly because of the urban programming. Since the merger took place, there isn't much difference between XM and Sirius.

If you want to be able to get all of the programming for both networks, I would wait until next year. They are going to introduce a new radio that will be able to receive all of the channels from both networks.

If you subscribe now, you'll be able to get the "best of" XM or Sirius (depending on the network you choose).

BTW, don't buy that "no commercials" line. A lot of the channels don't have commercials, but the majority do. I would definitely do my homework before making my final decision.

Here're SIRIUS' plug-and-plays:

But you can also get a plan that lets you listen on the Internet, in addition to the car.

If you get a Starmate 5, you can already choose your channels a la carte.

I don't think either company ever advertised as totally commercial free...the tag line was commercial free music...I can't speak for XM but Sirius has never had commercials on music channels...

I use XM and the majority of the music channels are commercial free, but some aren't. I don't think any of the talk stations are commercial free.
