Students may find Red Pen too Offensive - banning red pens?!

stop...using...uh!...red...pens!

TEACHERS have been told to stop marking schoolchildren's work with red pen because it is an "aggressive" colour.

X's Deputy Opposition Leader Mark McArdle told parliament today that teachers were being advised to reconsider their pen choice because it may offend children.
Mr McArdle tabled a Health document proposing "strategies for addressing mental health wellbeing in any classroom".

It says: "Don't mark in a red pen (which can be seen as aggressive) - use a different colour."
Feedback Is red too aggressive? Have your say below

"Given your 10-year-old Labor government presides over the lowest numeracy and literacy standards of any state in Australia, don't you think it's time we focused on classroom outcomes rather than these kooky, loony, loopy, lefty policies?" Mr McArdle asked.

Premier Anna Bligh called the question trivial at a time of "such economic peril".

Okay, this is political correctness going waaaaay over the edge. But with the way socialist and communist were bandied about as labels this year during the campaign, I'm not surprised to hear it - we're still scared of totalitarianism, er, communism (damned those Red bastards, LOL)

When I was growing up, red was not an acceptable color to compose or compute in, in neither public nor private school. It was to be used only for correcting mistakes. Banning it is clearly ridiculous, but traditionally unless red pens are used in an artistic fashion, for schoolwork I normally only associate them for teachers' and assistants' usage, not for students.

Personally I use origami to soothe their issues. I fold their papers up in to the letter they receive and place it on a doilie on their desk.

Give me a break.

I personally hate black ink. I always try to write in blue ink. (I have since high school when we were allowed to use pens for homework). I will only write in black ink if I am required to do so for work.

eek Nevermind the fact that "Lil Johnny" can't read...or doesn't quite get that 2+2 doesn't equal 5....you shouldn't offend his little dumb ass by using a red pen....

Isn't it time to kinda reel in some aspects of PC?

Controversial advice to teachers that using red pens to mark class work could damage students' mental health originated from a Howard government document.

Part of a kit to help teachers address mental wellbeing in the classroom, the memo offers a list of tips devised by experts.

One tip says: "Don't mark in a red pen (which can be seen as aggressive) - use a different colour."

The Liberal National Party (LNP) seized on the document in Queensland parliament on Wednesday to attack the state Labor government, with LNP deputy leader Mark McArdle labelling it a "kooky, loony, loopy, lefty" policy.

But Health Minister Stephen Robertson told parliament on Thursday the expert advice had originally been used in the previous federal government's Mind Matters program, to address youth mental health issues.

"This kit was not designed by those faceless ideologically driven bureaucrats holed up in Queensland Health's Charlotte Street bunker," Mr Robertson said.

"Which government was responsible for funding and launching this loony, lefty education kit that has attracted so much attention over the past 24 hours? It's the former Howard government."

Mr Robertson said the LNP had been looking for cheap headlines to detract attention from its own lack of policy.

"The issue of child and youth mental health is too important for it to be ridiculed in such a way by the Liberal National Party," Mr Robertson said.
