I am in love with Ikea. Except for the fact that what happens everywhere else, happens at Ikea also; I pick the expensive building blocks. Of course, whenever I walk into any furniture store I point out my favourite item there and it's always VERY expensive.

Lemme explain; I love how Ikea keeps stuff moderately cheap. I love that; I combine my antiques with their quirky stuff and so get something coming close to what I am about; mixture.

The problem in my appartment is the lack of cupboard space; I need more, so I decided to build my perfect cupboard, using Ikea building block.

I have a small livingroom and here I want to create an entire wall of space, using the BESTA cupboards of our Swedish friends.

I want;
The entire wall covered, so it looks like a wall.
I want a glossy, shiny kind of surface, so the reflection gives the illusion of making my room bigger.
I want TONS of space for various item, like cd's, dvd's, books, lp's, a flatscreen tv and a computer.

So. today I went to Ikea, got a guide, looked at various set-ups to get me started and then I started to draw. In excel, so it looks shabby.

Here's the set up of the frames and doors I wanted to use, listing name, price and size



Then I started to shuffle, using the possibilities of sliding doors, drawers etc;



Until I arrived at the first set up;



Which of course did not match up with the sliding doors I wanted to hide the tv, while at the same time I wanted to cover as much of the many collections I want to store in this wall of space.

So I had to make a new set up, maximalising the possibillities and practicality. And my own sense of beauty.

So of all the frames, I ended up using ONE frame and ONE tv cabinet, which I put in 3D to get a picture;



Of course, with all the doors (white ones are shiny white, the grey ones are glass, with the possibility to put posters/pictures behind the glass and the purple drawers are actually silver with see-through fronts that hold 75 cd's per drawers. I got 12 drawers planned;



And when you put it all together you end up with a nice cupboard that is way too expensive to get in one go.

Mine has WHITE frames and WHITE ONLY fronts, shiny as his red doors. The red stripe makes it really icky.

I have seen the white wall at Ikea and it looks AMAZING, when kept tight.

Also, his glass windows are open, showing fugly stuff, my windows will show antiques that will fit the dimensions of the space it inhabits OR will be closed up with some great photography, probably black and white.

Also, my tv will slide out of view most time, otherwise showing milky glassed drawers.

Ummm, as someone who works as an IKEA assembler, I may be able to answer any questions you might have, on the Best wall units or other lines.

But you probably already know all you need. so I'm useless.

The glossy laminate they have s nice, but gets dirty with every touch.
You'll have to drill through it for the handles, too. Unless you're going for the springy type of door opening, which will leave finger prints every time you open the door.

OHHHH, I thought this was gonna be a thread about the Spice Girls. Joking a plenty about their shitty song repetoire, cheesy outifts, and fake R & B stylings.
