Maybe you could let kitty into the basement until you're able to take it to the shelter and keep the puppy upstairs? I hate it when people dump unwanted cats/kittens out on the street to fend for themselves. It's good that your neighbors are taking care of them, poor kitties. Keeping the kitty in the basement and the puppy upstairs is an excellent idea. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Too much dairy isn't good for kitties. It's something they can only have a tiny bit of once in a while as a treat. So it will not fatten it up, but likely give it indigestion. |

i dont think i want to call animal control. You really need to ensure he's spayed/neutered and given shots though. I highly recommend it. Cause he'll just exacerbate the problem in the neighborhood. Florida is overrun by stray cats. They're everywhere. Cats are to Florida, what gay men are to the org. They're cute and all--but you get the sense that they're gonna take over soon.

(hi, former vet tech and animal control officer here )
There aren't that many diseases that pass between cats and dogs. Unless rabies is a big problem wherever you live (which it probably isn't, since it's snowing there), I wouldn't worry too much about that. Some worms are transmissible, but dogs are exposed to soil containing worm eggs every time they go for a walk, so it doesn't much matter. If you're going to feed it something other than cat food, feed it dog food or meat of some kind (leftovers are fine, but nothing with garlic or onion in it). Milk is not a good idea. I know animal control seems like a shitty option, but it's better than freezing/starving. Some animal control facilities only euthanize when a critter is too sick or mean to be adopted out. If that's the case, she's better off being euthanized anyway. Before she has kittens out there. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

Imago is right about the shots/neutering. If you're not going to be able to do that (which is ok, it's not like this cat's situation is your fault), animal control is a better option. Otherwise you're gonna end up with generations of strays who are no better off than this one. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

horatio said: CarrieMpls said: Excellent point. dont they have places that do it for free? Call your local Humane Society or animal control and ask about free or low-cost spay/neuter clinics in your area. Some places have them. Kiddo needs vaccines and deworming as well, and you're probably on your own for that. But that's not terribly expensive. Again, ask your local resources about low-cost vax. Vets-For-Less is a chain that has good prices on that kind of thing, if they've got an office near you. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

You might go and try to interact with her before you stress too much about veterinary care. If she is feral (not just wary/skittish, but acts like a wild animal when you sit down near her with food in your hand and call her), the best option is to have her trapped by animal control. It sucks, but. . . some irresponsible fool let their cats run around un-neutered, and this is what happens.
