CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- A Chicago woman acknowledged police have questioned her son in the killings of singer-actress Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother, but insisted they should concentrate on finding the boy who is missing from the scene.

Authorities reportedly are questioning William Balfour in connection with the shooting deaths.

Michele Davis-Balfour pleaded for the return of 7-year-old Julian King, who has been missing since the slayings of Darnell Donerson and Jason Hudson. Their bodies were found in a house on the South Side of Chicago.

Davis-Balfour identified the boy as the actress' nephew.

"Whoever has Jennifer Hudson's nephew or Julia Balfour's son, please, I'm begging you, me and my family are begging you to return that son," Davis-Balfour told CNN Chicago television affiliate WLS.

William Balfour says on his MySpace page that he is married to Jennifer Hudson's sister Julia and has a stepson.

Davis-Balfour said she had asked police to allow her 15-year-old daughter, Sensuous, to talk with William Balfour, but said authorities would not let her speak to him. Watch Davis-Balfour's emotional appeal »

Chicago police spokesman Daniel O'Brien would not comment on whether a William Balfour was in custody or whether police had questioned a man by that name.

Quoting law enforcement sources, however, the Chicago Sun-Times reports that William Balfour was in police custody Friday night.

=====

Davis-Balfour said her son had nothing to do with the killings. "Out of no means did my son do this. This heinous crime to this family is unbelievable. It's unbearable," she said.

By RUPA SHENOY, AP

Mourners dressed in their Sunday best milled outside the childhood home of the singer and Oscar-winning actress, along with investigators seeking clues to the whereabouts of 7-year-old Julian King, the son of Jennifer Hudson's sister, Julia.

In a statement Sunday evening from publicist Lisa Kasteler, Jennifer Hudson appealed to the public for its help, offering the reward and asking that any information be given to Chicago police.

Hudsons Family Tragedy

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson was hit by tragedy Friday when her mother and brother were found shot to death in Chicago. Authorities said the star's 7-year-old nephew is missing in the wake of the shootings. Here, Hudson is shown with her mother, Darnell Donerson, after receiving a best supporting actress Oscar in 2007 for her role in 'Dreamgirls.'

Donerson, 57, was found dead in her home on the South Side of Chicago Friday afternoon along with Hudson's brother, Jason Hudson, 29.

"Jennifer and her family appreciate the enormous amount of love, support and prayers they have received while she and her family try to cope with this tragedy and continue the search for Julian," the statement said.
Chicago police ramped up search efforts for Julian around the Englewood neighborhood, where Hudson grew up, and transferred custody of a "person of interest" in the killings to state authorities.

"Detectives are working 24 hours on this case," said Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond. "There's a lot of forensic evidence. We have to work the evidence and try and solve this case. Most importantly, we want to find the child."
An Amber Alert remained in effect Sunday for Julian, who disappeared on Friday, the day the bodies of his grandmother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and 29-year-old uncle Jason Hudson were found in the home they all shared on the city's South Side. The deaths were ruled homicides.

The Amber Alert listed William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson's sister, Julia Hudson, as a suspect in a "double homicide investigation."

Authorities said the search for Julian would be citywide, but on Sunday residents and officers focused their efforts "in the immediate vicinity" of the home, said police spokesman Dan O'Brien.

No...and it makes no sense. They have the guy in custody who they think killed her bro and mom. Her sister is accounted for. Who else was involved? Where in the hell could he be? He's only 7 for Christ's sake. After offering $100,000 someone has to come forward.

New in Jennifer Hudson case: Boy's body found in missing Chevy Suburban

Chicago Tribune team report
12:38 PM CDT, October 27, 2008

A boy's body was found in the vehicle police were looking for in their search for 7-year-old Julian King, the missing nephew of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson. The 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban with Illinois license plate X584859 was found in the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue around 8 a.m. (CLTV video / October 27, 2008)

Investigators were working today to identify the body of a child found in a car on Chicago's West Side, while family members of Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson assumed the worst--that this was her missing nephew.

The body was found in the white Chevrolet Suburban that police were looking for in their search for 7-year-old Julian King, three days after the bodies of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death in the mother's house in Englewood.

Hudson family members were expected at the medical examiner's office this afternoon to identify the body.

Police arrived at the Suburban with Illinois license plate X584859 before 8 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue, after receiving a call of a suspicious vehicle.

It was found by a 75-year-old who lives on the block, John Louden. He said he has lived on the block for 18 years and worried about people selling drugs in the abandoned building behind it. He saw the SUV while walking his dog. After a double-take, he realized the license plate matched the one police were looking for.

"I didn't look in there. I didn't touch it. I knew it was a strange vehicle," Louden said. He said police showed up in about five minutes after his wife called them. They discovered the child inside. The body was removed and the SUV was towed away for evidence processing. "I feel bad about that baby," Louden said.

If the boy is identified as Julian King, it will confirm detectives' worst fears because a law enforcement source said bullet casings were found in the boy's room on Friday. But the source said they had not found other evidence of violence in the room.

As the car was processed by evidence technicians and workers at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office sought to identify the body, Hudson's family members and supporters assumed this was the third member of her family killed since Friday.

"It's shocking. It's unreal. We had been praying that it would not come to this," said Rev. Krista Alston, a cousin of Hudson and a minister at the Pleasant Gift Baptist Church in Chicago. "We know it's a reality now, but it's still shocking."

Police found the bodies of Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, on Friday afternoon after a family member came to their home in the 7000 block of South Yale Avenue and saw signs of violence inside. The murders was missing sparked a manhunt for Balfour and a search for 7-year-old Julian King.

Balfour was brought in for questioning Friday night.

The boy remained missing through a long weekend in which police and volunteers posted fliers around the city with pictures of the boy. On Sunday, his actress aunt--grieving and rushing to Chicago from Florida where she was promoting a film--offering a $100,000 reward to anyone who found the boy.

Chicago police have been interviewing William Balfour, 27, the estranged husband of the boy's mother, Julia Hudson. He was initially described by police as a suspect in the investigation.

Police searched Balfour's girlfriend's house for several hours Friday night after taking him into custody. Her home is located about 2.5 miles from where the SUV was found this morning.

Balfour has denied involvement in the killings or the disappearance of the boy, law-enforcement sources said. But at some point, Balfour stopped talking to authorities, sources told the Tribune.

On Sunday morning, Balfour was transferred to a state facility after officials said he violated conditions of parole for a 1999 conviction for attempted murder. On Sunday, Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman Januari Smith said Balfour violated his parole because he is a suspect in the slayings and the boy's disappearance.

According to law-enforcement sources, Balfour's alibi the day of the killings has been contradicted by his girlfriend. Police searched Balfour's girlfriend's house for several hours Friday night after taking him into custody. Her home is located about 2.5 miles from where the SUV was found this morning.

Balfour and Julia Hudson had been separated for some time, his family members said. A family friend said Balfour recently had threatened to take Julian away.

A family member of the girlfriend's said police have interviewed her. Police also tracked Balfour's whereabouts Friday through his cell phone, sources said.
