Seahawks at 49ers

LAST MEETING: Quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan was sacked eight times but still managed to throw for 321 yards in a 33-30 overtime victory in Seattle on Sept. 14. Joe Nedney kicked a 40-yard field goal in overtime for the winning points. O’Sullivan hooked up with Isaac Bruce on a 33-yard pass in overtime to set up the winning score. Linebacker Patrick Willis returned an interception 86 yards in the third quarter to swing the momentum to the 49ers.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

The 49ers and Seahawks are third and fourth in the division. The loser of this game can start thinking about next season.

TEAM TRENDS

SEAHAWKS (1-5): This is coach Mike Holmgren’s final season, and the Seahawks have not done a good job of sending him out on a good note. The Seahawks have been ravaged by injuries to key offensive players. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will miss his third consecutive game. When the 49ers played the Seahawks earlier this season, Seattle did not have its top three receivers on the field. The Seahawks have struggled offensively and defensively. The offense ranks 28th in the league, while the defense is No. 27. At least the Seahawks seem to have solved their issues running the ball. Julius Jones has gained 459 yards on 97 carries (4.7-yard average). In the passing game, the team’s biggest threat has been rookie tight end John Carlson, who has 19 receptions for 201 yards.

49ERS (2-5): The Mike Singletary era begins today, as he makes his head-coaching debut after the firing of Mike Nolan. Singletary promises the 49ers will employ a more aggressive, attacking defense. In the past, the 49ers have played five defensive backs against the Seahawks, even on base downs. Expect the 49ers to give the Seahawks’ run game a little more respect this time. Offensively, the 49ers need to get O’Sullivan back on track. O’Sullivan has thrown nine interceptions, lost three fumbles and had another fumble result in a safety in the past four games. Running back Frank Gore has experienced success against the Seahawks, but he is coming off his worst showing as a starter. Gore gained just 11 yards on 11 carries last week in a 29-17 loss to the New York Giants.

THE SEAHAWKS WILL WIN IF . . . Seneca Wallace can complete third-down passes and Julius Jones had a big day running the ball.

THE 49ERS WILL WIN IF . . . O’Sullivan avoids the turnovers that have plagued him the past four games.

Those uniforms are offensive in multiple ways -- the team scored 56 points the last time they were worn. lol

Agreed, they are ugly. Eagles aren't always gonna score 56 points in those eye sore.
