The Letter People!

Hell yeah! Early literacy, baby!

When I was a kid, a program called "The Letter People" was used as an instructional aid. Each letter had a character with different traits and a snappy song to match! Apparently, they've changed some of the characteristics to make them less offensive to the new brand of kiddies- so no more Ripping Rubberbands. rolleyes

Also tragically changed was Mr. X- who had a wicked, wicked song! Behold the synth weirdness! drool

My brother (TRON/GangstaFam) was OBSESSED with Mr. S when he was little, even dressing up in his own Super Socks and running around the living room!

Here's the song:

As I was obsessed with anything that had the letter V, and still am, to a degree. Part of the appeal of Valparaiso University for me was the yellow V. giggle So I was all about the violet, velvet vests of Mr. V!

What were your favorites? Any memories of the letter people?

And I will not remark on this. It's too easy.

My favorite was Mr. M., "Munchy Mouth."

But I think I preferred the show's theme song to any one character theme.

Mr. M was cool too, a real favorite along with Mr. R.

Here they in all of their glory.

Ripping Rubberbands!

We never had this in HOlland, so to me it is all new. And scary, sometimes. Mr X freaks me out.

I was forever traumatized by these. My kindergarten teacher had stuffed animal versions of each of these that she was making for the class. I dared pick one up to look at it before it was finished and she spanked me in front of the entire class. Still hate the bitch to this day. mad

We had blow-up versions of these in our kindergarten class hung up around the room as we got to them each week.

Our first was Mr. M. I'll forever remember his song. "I'm Mr. M with a munching mouth... my mouth goes munch munch munch...."

The TV show was utter crap though. Some of the worst production values in the history of children's television. Turn up the damn lights! It's like "Meet the Feebles" but not on purpose and without the sex.

I hate that they got all politically correct and changed a bunch of them. I was outraged when they did it.
