Animal Rescue

Somehow, stray animals always find me. Whether it's some mutilated thing on the side of the road, a pet that's clearly lost or an abused/neglected dog that's been abandoned by its owner, I honestly run across several cases like this every year. And I don't seek it out either because I'm such a softie that I know I'll be tempted to care for the animal myself and I have more than a handful with the 3 I have already. Just during my daily life and travels, I probably rescue in some way or another an average of at least one animal/month. Dunno how this happens. It just does.

The most recent example came yesterday. I was just doing my thing, tidying up the outside of my home and this little Jack Russell terrier kept popping up. As soon as I tried to say 'hi' or approach the dog, it would disappear. Finally it got up the nerve to start circling me and once I got close enough to pet it, the dog couldn't get enough from that point on.

It was obviously lost and a little freaked, but also comforted by the company. In the past few days, I've gone up and down the streets asking if anyone knows the animal or someone who's lost a pet. I've checked the ads in the paper and local pet stores. Tomorrow, I'll try vet's offices and the animal shelters.

This is maybe the sweetest, most loving little girl I've ever met. The trouble is, I can tell she's missing her family and clearly has a lot of experience with loving people. So I'm eager to find her family. But at the same time, I've already bought her dog food, a leash and collar. I feel myself becoming attached. This is not good. My dogs would probably eat her alive. And the more time goes on, the more discouraged I am about finding her home.

What to do... sigh

Oh and this is what she looks like.

take her to a vet and see if she has one of those RFID chips in her. a lot of dogs do these days.

if that's what she looks like, she's cute as a button, though nod

SWEET!

i hope you can find her owners...they must be frantic. my neighbours dogs are always jumping the fence . confused

can you check kijiji? or the classified ads? look for an ear tatoo, call the shelter & leave your name in case anyone reports him lost. he is a sweetie & i can see how tempting it would be to want to keep him. For now keep him inside where its safe~~

I truly wish one of us could keep her, Nathan, The way she cuddles up and just snuggles in is the most precious thing ~ and, those eyes heart. I think animals just naturally gravitate to those they know will care and rescue them. Maybe the Sunday paper will have an ad from her owner. Sweetie she is till then. hug

Awww, that's sweet. And you ask yourself why? Cuz you are open to helping animals out. Other people would see something in a ditch and drive on. Other people would yell the Jack Russel off their patio.

You mean you kept her apart from Fang and Indigo? They so territorial?

First, take her to a vet to see if there's a microchip. If not, I'd check to see if there's a rescue organization that specializes in Jack Russels. If there is then chances are they'd take her, pay all her medical expenses and put her in a foster home until she can be adopted. This is always a better option for rescues instead of them being in a cage at a shelter.

I work with the Brussels Griffon rescue and I have a new baby boy I'm taking care of right now. Two-year old Scamp was saved from a puppy mill in Missouri. An angel of a woman drove down to Texas with these 64 dogs to drop them off with various rescue groups. Shrimp Scampi lived in a cage his whole life and it showed. But after having him a month he's the sweetest lil thang I've ever seen. mushy

What a cute dog! mushy That's great that you help out stray animals like that. We need more people like you in the world. It just seems like once an animal is no longer wanted, they are either released out onto the streets, or they wind up in an animal shelter. That is how I wound up with my 3 cats; they are all former strays.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Check also if she got a thight tattoo, some breads are tattooed there.

I know it can hurt to feel attached to this sweet angel, but at least, if her owner contact you to take her back, you can tell youself that was the right thing to do (I assume it's a good thing if the owner got worried about his/her lost dog, if he/she doesn't give a shit she was lucky you found her then)

All the pets I had, dogs and cats, came from City Pound. They've been the sweetest in the world.

Carrie has been distant and aloof this year. Her org status is greatly diminished. She should be banned for a week so she can see what it means to be an orger.

Last night for HOURS there was barking outside somewhere, maybe a block away. Our dog was barking back from inside the house (very annoying mad )

This morning, the master said he saw a little white dog, similar to our dog, walking in the middle of the street. A little while later, he looked out and it was still out there barking. Obviously lost. If I'd known, I'd have gone out and got it so I could have found the owner. I feel sad it was all alone and lost all night cry

I wouldn't even spend a kick on a JR, that's how much I care for them. It's great to care for abandoned/runaway animals but a JR disbelief
