hmmm..."nigger" is different than "nigga" in the manner that it is used. I think this is a situation that if you are uncomfortable with the term, then don't use it. I don't think when the term "nigga" used that it is used as a put down but a term of endearment or some sort.

Everybody knows this by now regardles if they're trying to be inquisitive or not.

Am i missing something? Can you people see how words are spelt as they are coming out of peoples mouths?

I'm not talking about the written word.

I was responsing to the Original title of the thread which was "nigger" in which you must have felt was different than "nigga" because you changed it. My response would have been different if this was the original title of the topic.

Using the word "nigger" would get you uzi

RHONDA B...
again i would like to point out that the TERM of ENDEARMENT
is N I G G A, not all blacks like or use it.
and it has only become a problem sence we accepted this
term among ourselves...
there is still some danger in other peeps using this term
as it is still a sure way of getting ones JAW WIRED UP.

kill the word...

as i said,
it ain't for everybody, to each his reach baby!!!

Maybe it would be best that the word was never used...
but then you must see that it's yet one more thing
(esspeacialy among us with a propecity for violence)
we can use to keep YOU PEOPLE in check.
black or white, how comfterable do you feel using the word?
me... i drop it like loose change in a holey pocket.
but then i'm willin to except the reprocussions if there
are any.
I AM King BAD a.k.a. BAD,
YOU EITHER WANNA BE ME, OR BE JUST LIKE ME

The word "nigger" orginally meant; sloathful and lazy. I dislike to even hear the word. I am african american and anyone that knows me no matter what color of their skin will not say that word around me. I will tell them number one I am not lazy. Two I am no where near stupid or slow, thats what sloathful means by the way. And three that name is not on my birth certificate. And Four I highly doubt if you know me well enough to judge if I am lazy or to question how intelligent I am or not.Thank you. End of conversation. The fact the people are calling themselves lazy and stupid means that Mr.Webster got over on a bunch of you fools. Try cracking open an unabridged dictionary. Liberate your minds and read a book or two.
I do not allow that or any form of the word to be uttered in my presence. Mainly because of the maliousness of the origins of the word. It had nothing to do with race but gradually became used more and more aimed at belittling someone. And those that say it used to be deogretory but it's not any more. You are only fooling yourself. Racism increases in stressfull times. The more you hear the word the more you know that Racism has not gone anywhere.

Interesting, Redd Foxx(to quote another comedian) mentioned this same thing in one of his stand up shows back in the 70's. He said that the original meaning of "nigger"is lazy and sloathful and said "so... that just means there are some white niggers in the world...I know plenty of white niggers myself"...(LOL)

All one can do is refrain from acknowledging it. If you allow people to call you by names, and you respond, it makes it okay to say it. Do what I do...blank stare confuse ...it always makes the idiots feel like idiots without having to say a word

Question2002

Well everyone knows how I feel about that N word

I'm the generation that went through hell
to take the N word out of the dictionary. Its
like letting Jason Friday 13th loose. Its said by
everyone by our small generation who believe that
they are the N word. Our babies can say the N word.

We marched so you could to the park and not be called
the N word. We marched so you could get an education
and not be called the N word.

The brothers would greet each other with a hug
and called brothers that was Pride.

The young generation have to respect how we feel
I just shake when I hear the N word and I will say
something to you.

I'm sorry the N word came back machinegun

Why do SOME black people choose to use this word to refer to each other? Is it OK or not for them to do so?

I personally don't like to hear it, I bought 'exodus' by the NPG the other day and it pisses me off, the constant usage of the word.

the only explanation i can think of is it somehow diminishes the power of the word if black folk use it on each other.I tend to think it perpetuates the words existence when really it should be left in the past.

opinions?

Personally...nigga isn't something used in my household but I've been called it by black folks.

All groups have endured slurs. And, it's not uncommon for those groups to turn those slurs on their head and use them when referring to themselves.

Still, it's an ugly word used to refer to beautiful people.

I generally tell my other "black" (for where does black begin or end?) friends to not refer to me as such, even when we're joking.

For others whose use of the word is rooted in malice and the intention of causing pain, I chuckle and say:

"God defines me as otherwise. And, His word trumps yours, every time." (Philippians 4:13)

It is the worst word in the english language...comparable to calling a white person a cracker or honkey just cause they are white. Which I endured one night driving home from dropping someone off at home in Gary Indiana. According to them I was nothing but a honkey white bitch, who did not belong in Gary. I never felt so violated in my life until then. However I know there are ignorant people in this world and still go on loving and respecting all people of the world no matter their race or color.

How many times are we gonna have this thread? Geezus.

It's a way of taking back the word, of taking the power away from the people who use it maliciously and giving it to the people who have been hurt by it. Words don't have power, only people have power.

If it upsets you, then you should feel free to not use it.

Sorry. I'm cranky.

Doves,

Just wondering...when Prince was using this word several years ago (on songs like "P Control" for example),did you think of him as "low class"? wink

Sorry guys, I do feel this topic has been done to death already in the forums, and it usually up in a flame war of some kind. I appreciate the good intentions Thecherryloon had in starting the thread but as I say these types of threads are a breeding ground for flame-baiters and I think it best I lock the thread before people get annoyed / offended and I get more complaints about it.
