It was the excellence of the show,

And of course, the soundtrack, that I actually play quite often.

I must admit that I should just shut off my sensitivities about the series and see it through early 90's eyes.

Can I borrow the box?

Twin Peaks for sure!

That's mine too!

I get an overwhelming feeling of, gosh, I don't even know what to call it. But when I hear that song, I have an immediate emotional response.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"The Jetsons". There's a wicked bass line in the big-band production.

interesting questtion. 6 months ago I bought both series on DVD and started to watch it again... Eventhough the brilliance of the series is still in tact especially during the first series, it totally loses focus when Laurea's killer is revealed..... I didn't manage to sit through and watch the final episodes....

I need to get those DVDs. I moved to North Bend, WA (aka Twin Peaks) in the spring and there are lots of reminders of the show around town but I never really watched it. Would be interesting to see how much of the area they filmed for the show. It is beyond beautiful here.

Don't laugh, I'm serious. It's not funk(big band), but a wicked bass line non-the-less.

P.S. How can I find it to play it on demand? I've been trying for years to get it.

Twin Peaks

Do you two think the series stands the test of time?

i re-watched it not too long ago, when the gold box set of the entire series came out, and i was impressed at how well it's held up over the years.

sure, there are some aspects of the show that are dated - some of the hairstyles and some of the fashions look WAY early '90s - but i think lynch has enough of a retro sensibility that he was able to make the show look modern, classic and timeless all in the same gulp.

watching the series again recently, what was intense and disturbing to me all those years ago was still intense and disturbing to me now. for example, i can't believe the scene with leland, maddie and the horse ever made it on to television. that scene is terrifying.

It was never really of its time, so I think it holds up. Or you could say it's just as weird as it was. It is quite the puzzle that it was actually a popular show for a while, or that it got made at all! Could there be hope for humanity? hmmm

i think twin peaks paved the way for shows like 'lost' and 'heroes' which are also puzzle-ish shows that play around with linear narrative, flashbacks, flash-forwards, inconsistencies in time and realities, etc.
