After the fey/poehler bit SNL does what it does best.... sucks.

Shame that the only funny bit was by 2 ex(soon to be) cast members.

I don't want to watch him talk about swimming, much less act in live sketch comedy!

his lisp wasn't as bad as his predictably awful diction. i guess you can only write so many skits for characters with a mouthful of marbles.

He was pretty bad.

I like when athletes and other non-actors come on the show and pleasantly surprise me. Derek Jeter was surprisingly funny.

They gave him as few lines as they possibly could and he still couldn't say anything without looking over at the cue cards.

The commercials for that show made me gouge my eyes out, so I watched The Big Lebowski instead. I feel better for it, except for the White Russian Hangover.

Come to think of it, I kinda wanna puke. I blame it on Phelps.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

oh come on, he wasn't that bad. He made it known he was nervous, but people obviously adore him.

the "musical" performance by lil wayne on the other hand flat out disgusted me. What a fucking talentless HACK. Bigtime pitch correction on his voice. And his "guitar part" during the 2nd song made me laugh - it was like a 3rd grader was playing.

And yet people buy this shit. Amazing.

I agree..I won't even go into it any further about Lil Wayne but it is harsh words about Phelps. The dude can't help his lisp. I didn't think he was any worse than any other guest that comes on that show. He's a likeable dude who carrries himself well and who has done something great in his field. I say more power to him. Granted, he's not Al Pacino but dig, as much as I love Al, I highly doubt he can swim like Phelps can. Let Phelps have his time in the sun.

It's SNL...not a Daniel Day Lewis movie.

I think it was a gutsy move on Phelp's part.

yeah, because it's a real longshot for a record-breaking olympic athlete with the world in his pocket to put on a wig and read some cue cards with the knowledge that he has the groupie equivalent of an IHOP menu waiting for him after the show's done. the man has RESOLVE OF STEEL, i'm telling you.

Yeah, but he did it KNOWING he'd get skewered. He's just having fun and enjoying his, what will definately be longer than, 15 minutes.

he is so in a nice safe fame bubble right now that a) i'm sure he was being yes-manned to death all week, and b) why the hell would he care about the world's opinions? he won 8 olympic gold medals! compared to that, sharing airspace with amy pohler really doesn't rank on the hero-meter. lol

What strong opinions...not just you Anx...but good grief...he was on SNL and he sucked...he's not the first...he won't be the last. Maybe it wasn't a big stretch considering what he wears to swim in...he's use to exposing himself on tv.

Hell, I didn't even watch it. falloff When I don't much care about the guest host or the musical act I give SNL a pass. I haven't watched it in a long time.

I think the last time I really watched SNL was the Steve Martin/Prince show. LOVED it. Would have watched it for either one of them.

i usually avoid athlete-hosted SNL episodes like the plague, but we wanted to see just exactly how horrible michael phelps would be and he did not disappoint. lol

had it been some WB teen soap heartthrob or something, i would have given the show a pass altogether last week. i think SNL went to crap years ago. disbelief
