Good question. If many people consider someone beautiful, then they are "considered beautiful." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the definition is variable. On the other hand, for some reason, some people are considered beautiful more often than others. The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary

On the other hand, for some reason, some people are considered beautiful more often than others. well, you have someone like, say, june carter cash, who exuded a really beautiful personality but may not have been considered a "conventional beauty" physically (though she was very pretty). then you have someone like, say, naomi campbell, who is considered the standard for beauty, but her persona wouldn't exactly be considered beautiful.

then you have someone like iman, who is ridiculously physically beautiful and also seems incredibly graceful at the same time.
so maybe i answered my own question. is iman an orger?

Well, there is outer beauty and there is inner beauty. For the purpose of this thread, I am asking about outer beauty. I find that inner beauty affects someone's perceived outer beauty, but the first thing people see is the outer beauty. The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary

I think that he means 'beautiful' as in "what the general population considers attractive".
You can say "A flower is a flower is a flower" but most women will enjoy getting a rose not a dandelion. Both are flowers and dandelions are hardier plants but our society considers one better than the other. I feel a hunk thread coming-

C'mon y'all - you know what I'm talking about - with all the "is she hot or is she not" threads all over prince.org. I'm talking about THAT very shallow skin deep definition of beauty. What is it like to have IT? [Edited 8/11/08 20:47pm] The blessings and curses of being beautiful - a documentary

I can see what you mean. Perfect example - Michael Jackson. But not all pretty people fall into that trap. Didn't Audrey Hepburn age gracefully without all that surgery etc.? In this post I shall shortly post an extensive dissertation on the subject and all the subtle nuances, social and philosophical, that come into play. I shall attempt to give both a personal perspective and a general, overall view of the topic at hand as seen by people, i.e. 'by society'. Wait, I'm not beautiful. And so ends my post. Yes, Anx is right. Carry on.

Good point, well made. It also shoots down your previous post. I'm right there with you alongside those physically beautiful specimens. Let's go start an 'ok looking' thread.

Beauty is the epiphenomenon of subtly realized imperfection.....to me, anyway. It's all relatively subjective. You twist it any way you please. [Edited 8/11/08 23:47pm] This sig is just a fig of your imago-neigh-shun
