What part of Virginia are you looking at?

Northern VA is nice, but extremely expensive and congested. You are however close to lots of attractions.

I live in the Richmond area. Still a great city IMO. It's smaller, but still lots to do. Nice restaurants, shopping, activities. Very nice houses, but not too expensive. You would be about an hour and a half from the ocean.

The western part of the state is gorgeous in it's own right. Mountains. Peaceful. Nice houses. I don't know about work out there though.

Virginia provides you the opportunity to have city life, but still be close to the ocean and the mountains.

It's gets hot and humid in the summer, but the winters are mild comparitively.

It's got excellent universities.

I love it here.

Can't see myself leaving.

If you want to know anything specific let me know and I'll try and help you.

Thank you for the info.
I was thinking closer to the west since my mom lives in Tennessee.

I called shotgun on that one.

But if you do the house chores and baby sitting, I think there's a possibility.

I lived in Virginia for 11 years...I actually really liked it there. nod Loved the scenery, the people there were pretty nice as well (emphasis on "were" lol..no idea if they still are). Close to Washington D.C. and New York (from northern VA, New York is a 4 hour drive or a quick train ride). Weather's decent...never really got way too hot or way too cold.

I live in Newport News, considered part of the "7 cities" It's pretty decent here, not too big, not too small. The beach is 5 minutes from here, or if you prefer touristy type, Virginia Beach is about 20-30 minutes from here. Lots of historical stuff here, Williamsburg is about 20 minutes from here, Richmond about an hour or so. Newport News and Hampton (neighboring city) has a population of about 350,000 combined I believe. Also lots of military here. Langley AFB, Oceana Naval, etc. Weather is pretty warm in the summer, humid though, winter is winter, but hardly any snow, maybe once or twice during the winter, and not much when it does. I also have relatives in Lynchburg (west side of Va) we go pretty often, but I don't prefer it to here, my opinion is it's country living. Alot slower there than where I live. Lots of land and mountains and such. But a good place to get away and relax.

Imago

It's absolutely beautiful in places, no matter where you are in the state, you're never too far from major US cities or ports of call.

I, however, would never live there.

I've lived in Norfolk, VA for my entire 23 years. I love it here. Very beautiful, lots of history and interesting places to see. It's just real laid back here, not too fast paced, not too slow. The 7 cities is a military area so there's lots of different ppl. I am pretty close to the beach (VA beach), about 20 min. or so. Summer is a bit muggy (though this month has been uncharacterstically cool and comfy) Winter is not so bad, rarely get snow. I just really like this place. the only thing is that the cost of living is a bit much around here; I can't really give any specifics tho. If I can help it, I'm not gonna leave after graduation next year.
I graduated bitches!!! 12-19-09 woot! dancing jig

You didn't ask "where" and "when" first, so you don't qualify lol cool...
