Hate women's magazines? AWESOME website!

Seriously, the amount of money I spent for the majority of my teens on stupid magazines that do nothing amazes me.

Magazines do nothing but make you feel ugly, poor, inadequate, lonely and empty.

And now there's a truly amazing website, pulling these clueless "journalists" up for all their inconsistencies.

Check it out, it's much more informative than Cleo will ever be :

Yet millions and millions of young girls, older girls, young women and older women can't leave them alone and let their minds be poisoned by them, time and time again.

Why?

Because they make you think they have "THE ANSWERS!" every issue. That's why the cover is so important to them. They HAVE to have the hot celeb of the minute, BIG HARD TO MISS TEXT, and 5000 promises of becoming "perfect" by the time you finish reading the book.

Needless to say, it's really just a case of printing the same stories different ways over and over again.

That's just sad.

If women know this and hate to be told they have to be "perfect" all the time, why keep on reading those lies?

Who edit these magazines?

I bet 90% of them is female.

a job on one of these is a dream job sigh
I used to work in sport magazines, and I can tell you we were all dreaming of working for a fashion mag where we were sure we would all be getting free samples of everything - we were all totally young and ready to perpetuate the myth, whatever it took, we didn't care!

Do you think that much of the stereotypes these magazines promote and most women say they hate so much (and then blame men for them) are actually being held in tact because of women themselves? The ones making and the millions buying these magazines.

I meant the millions of readers buying these magazines.

If so many women keep on buying them and keep on buying into the same lies and stereotypes over and over again, who is to blame?

Sometimes it's just incredible to see that even the most gorgeous women repeat all that bullshit these magazines spread and are so frigging insecure with their bodies.

It amazes me.

I can see that women my age don't read that shit any more, and they are way more comfortable in their skins, but that could be life experience now.
But honestly? I can't answer your question.
I read magazines in the doctor's surgery or at the laundromat, never bought them. Working in publishing devalued magazines for me - I was too aware of how little content there was for the money I would have paid disbelief
Did they affect me?
I felt way too removed from the reality portrayed in magazines for it to affect me.
I DO think a woman feels her beauty and worth is validated by others, and it is like a neverending quest. You know all beauty products are marketed as "hope" - they are pretty clever, we all buy into it pout

Why is it like that? Why the need to have your beauty, and even worse your WORTH, validated by others, especially when it's some random person or worse some fucked up magazine editor?

How hard can you make it on yourself?

Most women don't even realise how hard it all is. They think "THIS cream, or THIS hair colour, or THIS dress will make me FINALLY beautiful!" then wonder why they don't feel any different (speaking from experience here).

And when it's presented in a bright, perky, perfect package...as Madonna says...how can it hurt you when it looks so good?

Sweet! woot!

I've been a longtime hater of women's magazines ever since I was 15 and realized I'd been wasting my money on what amounted to a glossy booklet of ads. I hate how little actual content is in women's mags. Not just the "Cosmo" types, either. Housewife magazines like Good Housekeeping are just as obnoxiously devoid of anything useful except recipes.

This was about the same time I figured out that if I wanted a magazine with something worth reading, I'd be finding myself standing in the "Men's Interest" section at the Chapters magazine racks.

My current fave mags are:

Bitch
mental_floss
Esquire
Adbusters
Maclean's
The Walrus

and I used to fucking ADORE this indie mag out of Berkely (I think) called Kitchen Sink, but they, sadly, went out of business. sad

Especially when it comes to things like makeup and sex tips. Does anyone -I repeat anyone -not know at this point where to buy eyeliner or that men like having their dicks played with? Anyone? It's the same shit, month after month.

Or they go in the complete other direction and give you these impossibly STUPID sex remedies.

One issue printed a page about "bagpiping" where apparently the guy thrusting into a girls underarm feels better than actual sex.

WTF?
