DENTAL WORK I hate the dentist.
If there is anything i hate, it's the dentist. I've had major dental work done in my mouth since i was at least 10. Today is kind of routine, I have a cavity (or perhaps more) that doesn't hurt, but nevertheless, needs to be filled. and i'm nervous. it's one of those childhood things that stick with you. i have no real reason to be afraid, but i get panic attacks right up to the moment of sitting in that blasted uncomfortable chair. anyway - wish me luck, i hope they're not going to do anything major. so yeah, dental work? yay? nay? what kind of stuff have you had done? [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

I've had cavities filled and teeth cleaned. I hate the dentist as well. When I leave I'm soaked in sweat. It's not cute. My dentist actually said that he was having trouble extracting one of my teeth. Short of putting his foot on my face and pulling, he got it out. I was bulimic when I was a teen.
Ive had major dental work because of this. The acid you throw up eats at the enamel on your teeth. Imagine what throwing up for three years has done to my teeth.....its called $$$$$ Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize u simply imagined this So u lean over and give her a kiss Here on earth, here on earth, with u it's not so bad Here on earth, here on earth eye don't feel so sad Stay right here

Ya know I can't stand the dentist either but I recently had to take my daughter the dentist for her first cleaning ever and our new dentist was really cool about that. More importantly they've made advances in technology that AMAZED me! She used a "Water Drill" that uses a sharp jet of water to clean the teeth. No high pitched whining noise AT ALL, no GRINDING noise at all... I was STUNNED . You guys should ask what equipment they're using and see if you can't get a dentist with the new stuff.
Also, on the whole wisdom tooth thing, I had all 4 of mine removed in one sitting. I told my dentist that I HAVE A LOW TOLERANCE FOR PAIN AND A HIGH TOLERANCE FOR PAIN KILLERS! He shot me up twice with everything he had and all I can remember was him kneeling on my chest pulling... didn't feel a thing tho' A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

I was young and a wuss. I didn't say anything. It's always fun until your dentist has to start his instruments like he starts up his lawn mower. They have covered my teeth with artificial enamel, they have a big fancy name for it. I have to continue to get this done every 3 years. I wasnt able to save my molars, so they all have expensive crowns on them. let me tell you, I am a valued customer at the dentist office. Say it's just a dream...

I've never had to have any major dental work. I've just had cavities. I'm cavity prone though, so yeah..... . And I really like my dentist

I haven't had a cavity - or anything else - in 35 years. I get my teeth cleaned once a year and that's it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I have had cavities filled in the past. I need all of the ones I had as a child replaced. I still have a baby tooth that needs major work to correct once removed. I have needed braces for my bottom teeth that are severely crooked because I have no room for all of them in my small mouth.
I do not have to money to have all of that done so I have addressed the things that were causing me pain. I had to have two crowns and my wisdom teeth pulled to alleviate the pain I was having. As for the baby tooth and crooked teeth, I just smile with my mouth closed. Though I have been told that sooner or later I will have to address the baby tooth since it is receding and has a cavity. Maybe I should start playing the lottery now. I hate the dentist!

I used to have a lot of work done in my younger years - cavities (I blame my mother ), a root canal ... I had to get over my fear of the dentist, as long as they keep up w/ new tech they're alright (find one that ain't cruel!) But I haven't needed anything major in quite a while, though I did get my fillings replaced w/ porcelean (sp?) ones years ago.
The biggest cavity culprits - not brushing/flossing before bed, sugared beverages (they coat your whole mouth). Wipe those out & your visits will be cleanings only . . [Edited 7/29/08 10:02am]

I am obsessive about taking care of my teeth, yet am still a certifiable dentalphobe and hate the actual dental visits. Once, years ago, I had to suddenly jump up and out of the chair in the midst of a getting a filling because I thought I was going to be ill!
Visits have become a bit more tolerable since my dentist installed television/DVD players in each room; having a movie on which to focus definitely helps to distract from the unpleasantless taking place in the lower half of my face. Good luck today, sammi.

I love going to the dentist!
My secret--only female dentists. They are the best. I am going to the dentist this afternoon as a matter of fact. I grind my teeth--I wear a mouthguard now, but as a result of years of grinding before that, the edges of my front teeth are chipping away. I am very self-conscious about it. She is going to try bonding them. And she said she may not even charge me.

Hope it's gone okay today, Sammi. I've been lucky and haven't gotten a cavity yet. I had three wisdoms removed when I was about 22 and was put under for that. No bad experiences, yet. But I'm sure I'll be due for some in time. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

RenHoek said: Nail on head statement there... all the male dentists I've ever seen are like... I wonder if is has to do with the size of their hands... My family dentist growing up was a guy. One time he was checking my filling and poked it with one of those pointy silver tools. It hurt so bad! That was the last time I went to a male dentist. I used to chew gum all.the.time and I don't like milk so I had to get fillings in all my molars in high school/college and a crown when I was in my early 20s. But since then I have been cavity free! I go religiously twice a year for cleanings.

The enamel on my front teeth has worn off, too. (Due to eating a lot of citrus fruits.) I wonder if I could get this done...I bet it's expensive. I will ask when I go today.

Needless to say I become less than human at the dentist office I have an appointment this thursday for a root canal. I actually like going to the dentist. Nothing feels better than freshly cleaned teeth. I got braces right before high school graduation and wore them for 2 years to close my gap. When I got them I had 5 teeth extracted. Other than that I've never had a cavity. I got lucky in the teeth department.

I had to wear my braced for 6 years and they pulled 16 teeth before getting my braces! they pulled 4 and waited and then when I went back the orthodontist was amazed because they were growing back. They pulled those 4 teeth 4 times before they stopped growing back. I'm half chupacabra 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Leave it to you to find a way. My stuff was really minor cuz I just wanted to close the gap and move all my teeth back into the empty spaces. Plus I had a baby tooth that never fell out. However, YOU, my dear are extra spayshul.
