Sweet Holy Shit! It's brilliant! I totally thought I'd let the movie get too hyped up and I'd be disappointed, but it exceeded my expectations by miles!
And all I'm gonna say is this: The Joker makes a pencil disappear. No, it's not as naughty as that sounds. Sadly. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

saw it last nite...great movie...the thing I liked most about it is that you could have taken the super hero aspect away, taken away the silly costumes and funny names and it would have still been a great story...exceeded the hype in my opinion...

You will not be disappointed my friend. I LOVE superhero movies and this one is great all around. I love the fact that they're moreso adhereing to the dark knight theme as opposed to the more cartoonish aspects in some of the other Batman movies. Christian Bale has become my favorite Batman and Heath Ledger does a very good Joker, although I wouldn't say he outdid Nicholson. I wanna see more villians though, like King Tut for example...my second favorite next to Catwoman. Overall it was excellent...gonna see it again today. Keaton>>>>>Bale (As Batman, of course. I'm not stupid. I know who the superior actor is, overall. But I'm talking about who actually fit the mold of the character.)
Unless of course, Bale did some groundbreaking acting in The Dark Knight. Otherwise, although I liked Batman Begins, Bale hadn't quite done it for me. [Edited 7/19/08 8:12am] This sig is just a fig of your imago-neigh-shun

I can't even properly describe what a wonderful movie viewing experience this was for me. I've been a Batman fan since I was five years old, and this is the Batman movie I thought we'd never be fortunate enough to see.
The action was exhilarating, the acting was incredible (Ledger better get that Oscar), the story was clever, and there were a lot of intriguing philosophical questions raised. The movie is a crime saga masterpiece alongside films like Heat and easily the best sequel to a film since The Godfather II. To even compare it to other comic book movies like Spiderman or X-Men would be flat out laughable. It's in a league all its own. [Edited 7/19/08 9:50am] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Really brilliant movie. I've grown to like Nolan over time, as I was one of the few that thought Memento was an average movie. For me, his films have gotten better, and this is easily his best. He was smart with the minimal music cues, using them to beef up the suspense with the Joker. Ledger was every bit as good as they were saying he was before he died; the praise started before his death. This was the best performance since Monster's Ball.
I was surprised at how good Eckhart was. I've always liked him as an actor, but he brought a lot of depth to the Dent character. Caine and Freeman really chewed on their one-liners. The art direction was some of the best I've seen in a while. You can sort of recognize that Gotham is Chicago, but they did an excellent job adding some things, taking away others to make it come off as an entirely new city. The Dark Knight was much more dark and frightening than I thought it would be. Not to sound like a fuddy duddy, but I'm kind of shocked it didn't receive an R-rating. It's not a complaint - just an observation. There may be better movies this year, but I don't know if I'll be quite as entertained as I was during this one. Amazing.

Good job, Heath.
To paraphrase our lil Princey, you didn't just play The Joker, you were The Joker. That's a performance that's going to stick with me. I loved Nicholson's Joker, but I never in my life thought I'd see the Clown Prince done this well. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I am seeing the movie Sunday, so hopefully I will chime in after we can start freely talking in "review-mode." I was impressed with Batman Begins. The Nolan-Batman franchise should be in good hands. Even though I have not seen The Dark Knight, the third movie should be impressive as well. Batman is reborn. Nice.

It was kind of amusing how they had the joker wearing a clown mask in the begining, considering his face is already painted up like a clown, lol

I'm with you ...I did like the movie quite a bit, but I didn't think it was THAT good. Christian Bale is a bit boring in my opinion, and his voice while speaking as Batman started to get irritating lol...the fight scenes could have been done better: you rarely see a full shot of Batman fighting any of the bad guys...instead you get closer shots with little lighting and rapid editing so that half the time I didn't know who was getting hit by who until someone fell on the ground ...I didn't sense any real romantic chemistry between Maggie Gyllenhaallallalal's character and either Harvey Dent or Bruce Wayne. She could have been their sister for all I could tell. And the ending was a bit anti-climatic. On the plus side, though, I thought Heath Ledger did a great job as the Joker (althought they have him giving self-important speeches a little too often...very few of his ramblings ended up being enlightening). When he was dressed as a nurse and walked out of the hospital as it started exploding, I was cracking up lol...that was a GREAT scene. He was very creepy and menacing, especially during the first half of the movie (before all the speeches lol). The street chase was DAMN exhilerating, especially when the truck flipped and Batman rode the motorcycle up the wall to turn it around ...the audience clapped after that lol...and yeah, Dent's face after the fire creeped me out big time...just bizarre looking.

The rest was awesome. Ledger was so freaking scary! And Two Face was AMAZING LOOKING! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

You obviously have a terrible memory because the hype was HUGE way before he passed away. It simply increased as critics began to see it and the opening date drew closer. The true performance was Bale's? Really? An imitation of a plank of wood? Compared to Ledger freakin' locking himself in a hotel room and watching Clockwork Orange every day? Please.

See? We see the movie the same way. I like it, BUT... Bale's lisp and the distorted Batman voice really grate on my nerves. Heath's speeches weren't so bad, when I realized they were ways to advance the plot (he seemed to be doing it to get inside folks' heads -- which I enjoyed watching). The nurse scene was HILARIOUS, especially the little hops he'd give. I rolled. The coolest subplot to me was the accountant's "discovery" and the look he got after the car "accident." Very, very funny. Maggie G. seemed asleep, half the time, in the same league as Katie Holmes... The ending? Eh.Maybe I'll go see the Hulk, just to make Dark Knight seem better to me.

BATMAN IS THE BEST COMICBOOK HERO EVER! I saw it yesterday and very much enjoyed it. Some great action scenes with some extremely good acting on all parts. Really wish they would have brought Katie Holmes back to reprise her role and saved Maggie Gylennhal (sp?) for the next installment because she's 10 times better than Katie was...can't really say why I wish Katie had comeback without spoiling the film.
I've been a Batman fan since I was a kid. Used to watch the old TV show everyday on FX after school and watched the old animated series constantly. Personally, I liked Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne (he's okay as Batman, when you can understand what he's saying), but still think Micheal Keaton is the best all-around Batman/Bruce Wayne ever...Christian comes in second though, then Val Kilmer follows close behind him. The only things I didn't like about this film was that: (1) They didn't explain the Joker's origins like they did in the original Batman. This didn't take a whole lot away from my viewing enjoyment, but I found it just a slight bit annoying. I'm supposed to believe that he's just some disfigured crazy guy who just appears with no criminal background and no medical history sportin' that face...unless he did like Jack Nicholson did in the original Batman and paid some corrupt doctor to fix him up...maybe that's it. No real backstory about the guy and that was always my favorite part of the original Batman was that he supposedly was the guy who killed Bruce's parents, so revenge came into play...now, he's just some untraceable, rabid dog psychopath with no priors and no medical records...uh, okay. He's just basically evil personified. Heath was very good though, something I totally wasn't expecting ever since I heard he was going to play the character...I was pretty surprised because at points he was one scary mofo. (2) Two-Face has always been my favorite male villain...Harley Quinn is my favorite female willain and I really hope she's in the next installment. I was soo happy to see him appear in this film. His make-up was phenomenal but I wanted to see more of him. In the original story Harvey Dent becomes Two Face after having acid poured on him during a trial, so the whole time I was watching this film, I was telling myself that I really need to read these novels because many of the backstories on the villians are different from what I remember from the other Batman films. Aaron Eckhart was very good in the role and even to this day, I still think of how Billy Dee Williams was originally Two-Face in the very first Batman and how he amazingly became Tommy Lee Jones in the 3rd installment still gives me a chuckle, but loved Two-Face and wished they had spent more time on him than on Harvey Dent. My favorite parts were the 'magic trick'... , the high speed chase, the hospital explosion scene, and the unveiling of Two-Face..really wasn't expecting him to looked that amazingly fucked up, but it was magnificent really, truly superb ...my friend was like DAMN!" All in all, a very good movie and I can't wait for the next installment to come out. Batman is one of the only film franchises that I would ever happily stand in line to watch; and boy, were there some lines when I went yesterday. I've just always loved the idea that a man with no super human powers can still make a difference. It gets (2) Prince Rogers Nelson
