I do have to say that even though I loved the pill, I'm probably much happier now that I'm not on it. I'm much more laid back and relaxed, which is an interesting change. Would a spermacidal cream or a diaphragm work for you at all? I don't think a diaphragm would work, but maybe spermacidal cream is a good idea. Anyone have any experience with that?? Well, before I was on the pill I used these spermacidal inserts that I would forget to use sometimes. But would a condom with nonoxyl-9 count as two forms of birth control? I'm sorry that I'm not of more help, Erin.

It's no problem - I don't mind. My BF and I prefered this one: http://www.walgreens.com/...d=prod2875 Description With Nonoxynol-9. Effective birth control. For the prevent of pregnancy. For use with condom or alone. No hormonal side effects. Easy-to-use. The leader in women's birth control. Ortho Options offers women a full-range of easy-to-use contraceptive product forms that are highly effective, safe, and non-hormonal. Ortho Options Conceptrol Contraceptive Gel is unscented, clear, unflavored and stainless. It is prefilled into a single dose, convenient, easy to use, disposable plastic applicator containing Nonoxynol-9, making it one of the most effective contraceptives you can use without a prescription. Spermicides like Conceptrol are 94% effective when used correctly and consistently. Made in USA. Use for the prevention of pregnancy during intercourse; with condom or alone. It has no scent and the texture is just a little more sticky than something that could be a part of your normal fluids. I just didn't like the suppositories or other things - some of them he didn't like either because they irritated his skin. If you're going to go the gel route - this is a great one, imo. Oh - and it comes in pre-filled applicators that are much like tampon applicators...you use them basically the same way...plunge and push... [Edited 7/15/08 8:27am]

A couple issues with spermicide. First, allergic reactions to nonoxynol-9 are pretty common. I had all kinds of problems with infections when I used a cervical cap with spermicide - and none when I used the cap without spermicide. Also, spermicide on its own (without an accompanying barrier) isn't terribly effective. Fertile-quality cervical fluid is pretty durable - and if a swimmer hits that before the spermicide, it can be "hello, pretty baby." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Based on experience from 20 + yrs ago I didn't like it I didnt like the texture - the added and different fluid content slightly changed the dynamic of the intercourse friction forget oral once inserted also some men are sensitive to it - can cause burning/rash

Sometimes they know things that the regular person doesn't about new forms of birth control and what not. I'm going to take a quick look on Planned Parenthood's website to see what they have to say.

Ex-Moderator | Is there a reason you're against a diaphragm?
I feel like if it's not the pill, a barrior method is the way to go. And if you're against condoms, that's really your only good choice left. Although talking to a doc seems like the best thing to do... |

Well, They have some information about implanton, a hormonal implant that goes under the skin and lasts three years.
http://www.plannedparenth...n-4243.htm Then there's Depo-Provera, which is a shot. But they're hormonal...so there are those side effects to deal with.

Although talking to a doc seems like the best thing to do... I concerned about it coming out during sex, specifically rough sex. I don't know much about it though...maybe that doesn't happen. I'll have to research it. Yes, I need to talk to my doctor for sure.

Ya, that's what I do now. I know I shouldn't but because I spent my entire adult life not having to worry about getting pregnant (as was told by my doctor at 19 and that's how it was until I was 30) it's really hard for me to get into the 'you must be really careful' mindset. I really have no idea if getting pregnant was just some weird one time thing with me or if I am all fertile now. youve never used birth control?

You can stop looking now, because if you really don't want to get pregnant and you don't want to use the other birth control methods, condoms are the only way left. Since you are not fucking this other guy so much, using a condom with him could prevent a lot of unwanted shit. Otherwise you will have to keep on playing Russian roulette.
