I'm guessing you only say that because you know so little about it.
It's more physical contact chess.

you really believe that?! Believe me, I've played both. Your version is so soft. Always makes me chuckle when you guys think its this game for hard guys. lol

The goals of the game and the methods used to achieve those goals are different.
Football is not for wimps and sissies, and yes I know, neither is rugby.

rolleyes Minimizing the risk of personal injury does not make a sport any less tough. I've watched a lot of rugby here in Australia, and while I don't really understand all the rules, I do enjoy it. That said, the athletes rarely (if ever) reach the same speed as those who play American football, because the contact is fairly continuous. It would be barbaric to play American football without protective gear.

no, it would be rugby..

No it would not be rugby. You act as if the same rules, goals and aims apply to both sports and they don't.
My guess is you are more likely to be paralyzed, seriously injured or killed playing American football with pads than rugby without.

I hate to sound like Bill Cosby but don't poor ghetto kids have better things to spend their money on than Air Jordans?

Uh you don't buy Air Jordans to play basketball in! You were Payless for playing in unless you can afford to buy two pair of Jordan's everytime they come out. That surely isn't hindering the economy, more like boosting it.

Are you serious? I never post here and had to for that quote. Have you ever heard of a little league called the NHL? I'm a diehard college football fan, but even I admit that it's (hockey) a "tougher" sport on the body, protective gear means nothing. And there are plenty of American's that play it...

I imagine trying to play football or rugby or whatever on ice skates traveling 30 miles an hour down a rink while people are trying to check you into boards is a bit more intense than running with a rubber ball. And I happen to love ALL sports, so I'm not not putting any of them down.

I'm just a girl with an opinion, though...

Ice Hockey is the best you can do?! any game where you yanks feel the need to dress up like Richard the 1st. Like I said, try rugby union or aussie rules, or many of the Irish games. These are tought sports...

You are having so much fun with your faux superiority.

Who is going to challenge the NFL? No argument that the winner of the SuperBowl is world champion.

That's because no one plays it! the rest of the world recognises it as a sport driven by the need for commercial breaks, not talent.World champions. lol! is there an actault sport (aside from athletics) at which the US can claim to be genuine (as opposed to self-titled lol) world champions?

Your guess?! I've played both and the differenc is n the average game of gridiron you come off with no bruises (although the chance for serious injury is there). In the average game of rugby you come off aching all over, whilst still having the chance of a serious injury. you guys go for looks over substance. its your culture. Nothing wrong with that, just admit it...

Let me just add something here. My husband is AMerican and played some Gridiron.. and after watching Rugby he thinks that we are all insane for the lack of protection lol Even he said Rugby and Gridiron are fairly simular and he's amazed that the Rugby players dont get seriously injured alot more often. He said he would Not play it without his Gridiron gear lol Some ver big, solid boys play rugby and If I were a guy I personally wouldnt want one of them slamming into me without some padding lol
I've also heard a few AMericans that live here think we are nuts to play Aussie Rules Football without Protection....I disagree...Aussie rules is a pussy sport compared to Gridiron and Rugby.

In case you weren't aware, the NHL consists of international players. My favorite player being a RUSSIAN player, and I'm sure he'd get a chuckle out of someone calling him a yank & Richard The 1st wannabe.

I suppose the fellow who had his throat SLASHED with the blade of a skate on television last season would enjoy your foolishness too.

Have you ever played a sport? Most athletes respect other athletes and don't measure their "toughness" by putting other sports down.

Just because you don't *like* something doesn't mean it's inferior. I think hockey is more intense than football or rugby... do I think they're (hockey players) the toughest men alive? No. But I apologize for trying to reason with a child, so I'll kindly slink back into oblivion.

biggrin biggrin biggrin . Not such an oblivion that you don't feel the need to state your case I note...I've played them all so i feel I'm in a position to offer an objective opinion. and yes, some sports are inferior to others in terms oftalent and toughness and ability. Bottom line, the US is stuck in its own sports because it prefers to be seperated from the rest of the planet and call itself world champions in a sport that only you play professionally...

Track and field. Do okay in swimming . . . (M. Phelps anyone?)

Here you are really pressing me to go nationalistically ballistic.
I'll wait . . .
I don't know who you played against, the field you were on (grass or turf - turf is painful and you always get burns), the weather, or the rules.
If weren't playing Division level football then your playing experience is suspect unless you grew up here then you'll be more positively received, at least here.
