Food Expiration Dates

Do U obsessivley go by dates on your food products ! Are do U use your own judgement on stuff 2 keep and what 2 throw !?
Whats the oldest thing U have found in your pantry or fridge and said; Hell No Thats Gotta Go ? I was makin' baked beans 4 the July 4th weekend. And I had no dark molasses,so I found a bottle of dark caro syrup, was gonna use it tell I looked at the date on it ! Best if used by August 1984 omfg I was like hell no and threw that out so fast !
peace PEACE.....It does not mean 2 be in a place where there is no noise, trouble,or hardwork. It means 2 be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart ! heart

falloff Hello Rich.

I don't use anything if it's more than a few weeks past expiration.

Did you know medicine doesn't really expire on its expiration date?

It depends on the product. If it contains dairy or egg, I go by the date on the package within a day or two, making sure it passes the smell/taste test. If it's something like ketchup or a condiment that's refrigerated and full of preservatives, I may go a few weeks after expiration.

It totally depends on the product. The date on the package is a "sell by," so I always figure I have a couple days beyond that with dairy. (Especially with cultured dairy like yogurt, sour cream or cottage cheese, a couple more days won't hurt. The culture acts as a preservative.)

Expiration dates are just a guide. Food can go bad even before the expiration date.

If you don't trust it, throw it out.

Usually it turns into stone before it turns green, and then my teeth are not strong enough to chew it.

I'm a stickler to dates, I'll toss everything if it's supposedly expired, but it can be wasteful. I also try to look and smell the food to determine the freshness, but I guess I'm scared of making myself sick so I just follow the date.

nod Plus I didn't realize that the cheaper stuff I'm getting from Target (say, a case of soda or something) is closer to the expiration date which is why it's cheaper & ends up on Target shelves. & yes, soda does go bad. Open it too long after the date & it tastes like club soda ill

Honestly if there is no mold/staleness present, i'll eat it. Dairy I am iffy about...meat too. Eggs...it depends. Condiments last until they are done. Canned or dry products are good til they get opened, I think.

1984 - wow! I usually try to use things up not too long after the expiration ate. I hate opening up a package of food and finding mold on it. ill
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
