ZAUBERFLOTE said: Listening to NPR yesterday three natural disaster stories were reported; fires, extreme heat, and droughts. With global warming it is only going to get MUCH worse. The prices of homes and gas seem to be above the national average. EARTHQUAKES all the time throughout the state.
I know it is beautiful and the coast line is amazing... but why the fuck do people want to live there... i live in a very pretty part of northern california, it's a great location, just hour & half away i have lake tahoe, which i love! but it is too costly to live here, i've thought about moving.....trust me! but at the same time, every state has it's issues.

I know it is beautiful and the coast line is amazing... but why the fuck do people want to live there... Born in Oakland, CA and have spent maybe a grand total of two years out of state. Beautiful weather, incredibly scenic, people that range the spectrum of human experience. Always something to do and in the Bay Area and L.A. at least, always a place to get something great to eat. Finding a Chinese restaurant at 3 am after clubbing and drinking . . In L.A I can't imagine there's much I couldn't find 24/7. The feeling of creativity, positivity, dreams. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Despite the heat and such, I don't mind where I live. I'm in the central valley of Cali. We rarely ever feel the slightest from an earthquake, haven't flooded, don't get the severity of the midwest and aren't desert. I'm 3 hours away from Los Angeles and 3 hours away from the bay. I can't complain too much. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

I like the heat. Preferably with a breeze. But I'm fine into triple digits. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Everywhere has fires, drought and heat. For the most part our earthquakes are minor and don't cause much damage or death...Most of the time.
Exactly.Contrary to popular belief, earthquakes are rare out here in Cali.Yes,it's scary when it happens but fortunately we don't have them very often.Tornadoes and floods,on the other hand, happen very often in other parts of the country (midwest).

While visiting Palm Springs, I took the tram up to Mt. San Jacinto, played in the snow and then went back to our condo and laid out by the pool. Only in California!

Several years back the fires in the San Bernardino mountains were so close they had a voluntary evacuation for my entire neighborhood...but I didn't know it until I got home late from work, like around 9:00 pm. Roads were closed off, I had to drive several exits away before I could exit the highway, and then doubled-back on side streets trying to get back to my apartment. Once I did, the entire parking lot on my complex was empty and covered with ash, except for about 7 cards. I saw this family loading boxes up into their car and asked what was going on. The father was the one who told me about the voluntary evacuation. I decided to stay, not really sure where I'd go anyway if I left (hotels were packed lol)...
That, and the '94 earthquake, are the closest I've ever come to having any of these disasters hit home ...

I know it is beautiful and the coast line is amazing... but why the fuck do people want to live there... I haven't been in a earthqueake in probably over 5 years, and it was a punk ass earthquake. We RARELY have earthquakes that actually do anything...RARELY.

What gets me is why so many people are concerned about this state. I mean, you don't ever hear people talking about why people would want to live in Nebraska or Oregon or Idaho. If you don't TRULY want to live in California, then why are you so worried about why others may want to live here? Just be glad that you live wherever it is that you live and stop tripping.
