Rite Aid wouldn't sell me beer Rite Aid (drug store) wouldn't sell me a 30 pack of beer because I let my 15 year old son put it on the counter for me since it was heavy!
My son and I stopped in there on the way home from his drivers training class to pick up some beer for a BBQ we're having on Friday. Those 30 packs are pretty heavy, so I had him lift it on the counter. I told the clerk that he was paying for his Cheetos first with his own money. She told me that if he's not 21, she can't sell the beer. I laughed and told her he's not buying it, I am and I'm 35, he just put it on the counter for me. She said, "sorry, I can't sell it to you." I was kind of stunned, and just said, "well, all right then," and left. Have you ever heard of such a thing??? I was kind of mad.

I sure she assumed since the kid put it on the counter, that you were buying for the kid. Probably put in a position where if she sold it to you and the kid drank it and something happened, it could come back on her. Not saying it was right or wrong. Just probably thought she was protecting herself. If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.

Yes, this was standard in Iowa, where I grew up. If you went to the grocery with your friends and bought beer, they all got carded (and if they all weren't 21-forget it). I'm more surprised by the fact that Rite Aid sells beer. I'm pretty sure the ones in NYC don't.
