NEED HELP/OPINIONS--breaking a residential lease i have to break my lease at the halfway point. my sister can't afford to live in the house my mom left us by herself (she has 3 kids to feed too). i have a pretty decent relationship with my landloard, and i was actually on month to month for 3 years before i just signed this last lease. i read online that it is unlikely that he will pursue the matter in court, but i don't really want to pay $5,000 for a place i won't be in. my buddy told me 30 days notice, plus an additional month after that should be sufficient?
anybody had to deal with this before? ramifications? [Edited 6/29/08 7:43am] | |

There are alot of factors. Can't really say much without reading the lease.
1. Landlord may be much less cool due to the housing crunch. 2. Some states provide for extraordinary circumstances with leases. 3. Do you have a lawyer? If the landlord plays tough, many times a letter of explanation from a lawyer helps. It lets them know you have representation and the matter will be much more complicated for them. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |
