Mine is unhappy. He is not fond of Germany. I was hoping Turkey would pull through. I am not sure why. It is only a game.
Carry on.

I´m a Turk, and I hate football(=soccer) with a passion. lol
It only seems to bring out the worst in people and some folks seem to see it as a substitute for war, an outlet for their darkest and most simplistic and primitive nationalistic instincts. Sure, it´s just a game, that´s the way it should be but unfortunately, the reality I see around here, in the media, among my colleagues, in the streets and in the pubs, is a bit different, and this goes for both sides, German or Turkish. Give me a good basketball game any day...the trainers are always dressed much sharper, the whole attitude seems to be more sophisticated, and the fans behave like civilized human beings. wink
At least the basketball fans don´t use the game as an outlet for their political views and anger.

I also dislike American football for the same reasons....way too much testosterone and alpha-male thinking as far as I´m concerned.

The only good thing about football is that it seems to give some countries a much needed emotional boost sometimes, and that´s not a bad thing but when things get ugly, they get REAL ugly. Tonight, many Germans and Turks celebrate together, and that is another beautiful thing, it CAN unite people sometimes, let´s just wish it stays this way, and let´s wish that one day people won´t need their flags and some sports tournaments for achieving this.
The media over here were really a bit worried that things might get ugly but fortunately, up to now, people are partying and celebrating together.

This being said, I congratulate the German team and I´m happy for the Germans, it was the only match that I watched from the beginning to the end, and it was quite an exciting game. The German press totally underestimated the Turkish team , some even ridiculed them, and it took two victories to even be taken seriously even though Turkey played quite well during the World Cup back in 2002.
