From our first evening together, I felt more at home with him than I ever have in my entire life. I feel protected and safe, and in turn it fills me with joy to do all the little things that make him feel loved and taken care of.





I've learned that it's possible to be reborn through love. I have learned that it's possible to regain innocence - something I never thought could ever happen. A lot of the beliefs I held about learning from past experiences, about hurt and pain preparing you to love, about shedding "tough" masks and hard outer shells in order to touch true strength, have been made real and tangible as a direct result of my relationship with him.




I always love the way he smells. He catches me sniffing him and calls me a fucking weirdo. But there is this one cologne he has, I don't know the name, but he puts it on when he wants my panties to disintegrate of their own accord. Or when he wants me to make that steak sandwich he likes.

For the first time ever, they can go play outside all the time. We always lived in apartments in the city, and it was almost always cold. Now we live in the suburbs where it's warm, and our neighborhood is full of kids. They can just hop on their bikes and ride around with their friends. That is a HUGE change that just makes me indescribably happy.

My younger daughter shares a room with Chris's daughter, and since they're only a year apart they're more like twins. So she's got a live-in best buddy and partner in crime, and she loves it.

My older daughter has her own room for the first time, and a big brother who has done a lot to toughen her up and teach her to stand up for herself, even though some of those lessons come in ways she hates. It's totally good for her, though.




They miss our family, and their old school. They went to a real hippy-dippy, super-diverse, culturally rich alternative school and they miss a lot of things about it. But they keep in touch with their friends through email and phone calls.

Another big change is having a dad. That's something I can't quantify in words. They adore him to a degree that even he doesn't understand.




The food. It's all chain restaurants here. I miss the cafes, the abundance of Mexican, Italian, Ethiopian, Haitian, Greek, Syrian, Afghan, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, etc. restaurants and shops where you could get delicious, cheap meals on almost every corner. On the plus side, I've expanded my cooking repertoire considerably.




Swimming, relaxing, eating excellent food and getting a pleasant buzz from quality alcoholic beverages. Giggling with my husband and knowing that our kids are having a great time. We're planning on fulfilling this on a Disney cruise next year.
