What is inaccurate about saying that he punked out his teammates and the Lakers' management? That isn't fabricated. And yes, I think those actions and his overall air of arrogance detract from his character. shrug

The whole thing is inaccurate actually. To my knowledge, the only "teammate" he ever called out was Shaq, and that was because he consistently came in to training camp out of shape and unprepared. Since we are on Shaq, let me ask you why you don't feel as strongly about Shaq's calling out of his teammates, or his "punking" Lakers' management as you do Kobe? Because that's EXACTLY what he did right before he forced them to trade him. He challenegd their competence and professionalism...even going so far as to yell at Laker owner Jerry Buss as he ran down court during a preseason game after scoring a dunk...asking "are you going to pay me now, mother f*cker?!" Yet, Shaq is never blamed. Why is that? Buss was offering Shaq an extension which at that time would have made him NBA's highest paid player. Yet, Shaq was disrespecting the man to which he works for in order to pursue his own selfish, greedy agenda. And that's ok? Also, don't you remember the year...Shaq's last year in L.A. actually...when both Gary Payton and "The Milk Man" came on board? Both of those players took exteremely less money to play in L.A. and pursue a ring. Yet, all Shaq would say was that he would "never take less" to allow those players to remain with the team if they were to defend the title they had won. Of course, they lost to the Pistons in 5 games, so that didn't happen. But, you have to get my point. Shaq is a lovable guy. But, he's a much worse teammate and employee then Kobe ever has or will be.

All Kobe wanted was some help. Sure, he probably went about it thew wrong way, but they listened, and he took the team to this year's NBA Finals. Looks like it worked out for him after all. I don't think you'll hear him, his teammates, or Laker management complain about it too much...

Sure, Shaq had better numbers in the post season. But, look at the stats. Without Kobe's dominance in the regular season, the Lakers don't even make it TO the playoffs. It was #24 who carried Shaq's lazzy fat ass through those 82 games. Shaq only showed up when he wanted to. Anyone remember his waiting until training camp to get his "on company time" toe surgery? Talk about a team player (or lack thereof). O'Neal's refusal to get (and stay) in shape cost the Lakers that championship against the Pistons in '04. Last time I checked, Kobe ALWAYS keeps himself in peak physical condition. Shaq's shape was always round. And please...before you say it...let's not bring up Shaq's championship with the Heat. Everyone who knows anything about basketball knows that was Wade's team, and Wade's title. Shaq was only the fat, lazy guy in the middle.

I agree 100% with this statement. All of this is indeed true. Folks out here in L.A., myself included, all thought that Shaq was getting a free ride to the playoffs. The back, many times, he rode belonged to Kobe. Shaq talked about his toe surgery for at least two seasons in a row. Many games, Shaq would be on the side lines in his street clothes, not even thinking about getting suited up. I always thought, regarding Shaq, that he wanted it to be "His " team. He said it several times on the news out here. Me living in So. Cali, I've seen this on the local news countless times. They covered it all. Long before the "Fued" between Shaq and Kobe got national attention. Folks out here had long since knew what was goin on because it was a soap opera that got covered out here to DEATH. So I think because he sensed that he was more likeable with fans than Kobe was, he felt he could state that it is "his " team and get away with it. Kobe was more about, definately at that time, letting his actions on the court speak for him. And because perhaps fans did like Shaq more on a personal level, Shaq would get all of the glory when they won the titles. Which wasn't entirely fair to Kobe. A cat that rarely missed games and often times, played hurt. I think Kobe did resent Shaq and the fans for this to a degree.

Yeah, it looked bad when he got wheel chaired off the court only to come bouncing back in shortly after lol but I can understand being scared the injury is worse than it turns out to be. And yes, he wanted away in the off-season but he didn't make the noise Kobe did. I still stand fully by what I said.

Listen, I acknowledge Kobe handled last off-season rather poorly. Hell, even I couldn't defend those actions. But, he reported to camp...made his teammates better...and helped his team win one of the most competitive Western Conferences in league history. I think that says a lot for his character and intergity. Don't you?

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I do respect and appreciate your allegiance to your team's players. I'm just still trying to get over that painful loss on Tuesday night. wink

Have a good night!

I'm a Hawks fan though. smile
