Have you ever had to argue with a drunk person to tell them they can't drive? Why do they insist they can drive when they can't
even make their way around the parking lot on foot to find the car? Tonight I had to snatch the keys away from my boss (who took the keys away from the other manager - telling her she couldn't drive) while she was making her slurred speech. I think my actions were too fast for her that she didn't know how to react. Being sober, I could tell she was drunk because she kept repeating herself, and kept forgetting what we were doing, and when we went to find the parking ticket in the car, I mentioned that I think the other girl had it. I repeated myself several times and she still didn't understand what I was saying. When we got back to the parking lot where all our other cars were, she wanted to drive herself and one of the other girls back home. That's when we got into this little talk. She won, of course. Apparently, they do this every week and she feels that she's done it before and drove okay, and she could do it again. But when I watched her drive away, she was driving like a little old lady. Why do drunk people insist that they can drive? Why? Should I have taken her keys away from her anyway?

yes, it happens on the internet all the time. I see that a lot in P&R, looks like a wreck in there sometimes.

Should I have taken her keys away from her anyway? And call a taxi or the police.Whatever she prefers. It's not what she can do to herself. It's what she can do to others.

I feel guilty for letting her drive drunk, because of the potential harm. Then don't do it. In an altered state they can have delayed reactions, run lights, crush animals, accidentally hit or kill other motorists. It's not worth taking the chance. Eventually the odds will fall out of the drunk driver's favor and they WILL jack something or someone up bigtime. If you're ever in that situation, snatch the fucking keys and call them a cab,if it's not a welcome friend or family member that can come crash on your couch. If they get mad, so what. Them being all snickerty for a day is a much better option than them running over someone or crashing into a telephone pole because they were impaired.
