I started running again. I'm taking it slow because the last time I started which was a few years ago I got shin splints. So running about 3x/week Karate 2-3x/week Weights 3x/week Daily stretching - I want to be able to do a full split by the end of summer! Eating clean w/one designated cheat day instead of random cheating I’ve got about 30+ days before my vacation and I need to either trim down from the pounds I gained over winter. It may not happen but I can definitely reshape my form. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Anyway, I run about three times a week at this point and plan on doing more as I get used to it again. I can do Pilates classes again and plan on going to my first ballet class since October next week. I took Bikram yoga for the first time also two days ago and now I can hardly move I'm so sore. It felt amazing though. Exercise keeps me sane. Well, relatively sane that is. Bikram is the BOMB!!! I've been doing it on and off now for 4 years. I finally got super serious last year and amped it up to 4-5 90 minute classes in a 100 degree, 60% humidity room. The sweat is awesome! That coupled with weight training and additional cardio 3-4 times a week. I totally see how yoga keeps your body young and I'll always do Bikram.

And yeah, the sweating feels great. I'd always done Iyengar yoga before that, and I still do my own practice at home when I can with different asanas than Bikram offers, but Bikram is addicting! You feel SO great when you leave the studio. [Edited 5/21/08 6:38am] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I want to try Bikram but I’m scared. I find Hatha yoga tough as it is but then I wasn’t in great shape when I first started. Maybe I can manage Bikram now. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

It is sort of scary actually. At first anyway, because it's really the heat that makes it so challenging. I almost passed out once. You get used to it though. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Well, I've gained 7 pounds this year which may not sound like much but I'm not all that tall so it shows. I was trying on clothes yesterday and I had a terrible muffin top.
So, running 1.5 miles 2 x week. Aerobic dvd 2 x week. Hatha yoga 1 x week Plus regular dog walking. Low G.I diet, instead of having four slices of toast for lunch it's soup from now on. Porridge breakfast with bananas and walnuts. Dinner is normal, so salmon and stir fry tonight. I'm just trying to stop the ice-cream, scones etc.

I HATED it at first but it was partly due to the Nazi-like yoga instructor I had. She'd tell you not to leave the room no matter what and if you felt like you needed to throw up, there's a bucket in the corner. Throw up and get back on your mat. I didn't like her at ALL. I've since found a studio with it's own twist on Bikram and they're expanding all over Texas and Colorado so they've got great prices and offer tons of classes daily.

Yeah, Suze was crazy. She does her own brand of Power/Boot Camp yoga and is quite abusive and in your face. Combine the abuse with the heat plus me on the wrong day, I was scared I was gonna whup her ass in yoga class. Not a good look. . .

Therefore, most of the studios I've been to don't use the name Bikram and modify the postures or sequence so as not to infringe on his copyright. Ain't that some bullshit??? Ex-Moderator | I'm trying to figure out a workout routine to get back into my life and I simply can't do it.
I DO do a lot when I work the coffee shop, though, and that's at least 3 days a week. I'm on my feet the whole time, I'm running around barista-ing and cooking and sweeping and mopping and wiping off tables and such. It's got to be a decent workout. In addition, I've been quite careful about my diet, verging even farther into veggie-land, cutting out meat almost completely. |

[Edited 5/21/08 7:37am] This is exactly why I wouldn't do Bikram at first. It seems so cultish. Actually, my mom had a Bikram book from back in the 70s that I used to look at as a kid. It has all these pics of his studio in Hollywood with celebrities doing all the poses like Shirley Maclaine, Herbie Hancock, and Justine Bateman as a kid. So I knew about since I was a kid but never tried it until a few years ago. Anyway, I do like the heat.
