Rane lets look at this another way. First let me say that I admire your dedication to your belief system. But there are those that want to know about your belief system, about why your belief system is so great, and why they should look deeper at it. Here's the crux: If you quote scripture, you will turn them away because either 1) they've read the Bible and just can't find their way through it (even with an open heart and a questioning mind) or 2) because they see quoting the scriptures as rather dogmatic and not coming from your very own heart and mind. Now I know that you faithfully read the Bible and believe in it wholeheartedly so that when you quote scripture you are quoting from the heart, BUT instead of standing on the scriptures use your own words and your own experiences. Use what is within your heart to help "heal" another if that is what you so desire.
For instance, I believe in God. I also believe in Jesus and Christ. Now I could quote scripture when I say that I believe but I know that the person reading these words would be turned off by that. Being a good person, not a religious person, but a loving and spiritual person, I do not want to turn someone off from believing. I do not want to be the instigator in pushing someone further away from believing in God. So my reasons for believing are as follows: 1) I cannot fathom human life as being an accident. Life is just too complex to have just happened because all the elements were in the right place at the right time. That is too coincidental to me. Therefore there has to have been something greater present to make sure things were right where they needed to be at precisely the right time. 2) I do not believe in a Biblical God, one of judgement and one to fear because God is love imo. I feel this because Love is such a pure emotion, holy if you will and out of love comes such great acts of human kindness and strength to overcome turmoil and chaos. I believe that this Love is what guides us throughout our life and that when we look deep within, we discover the most amazing secret of all, that we too are that same Love. There is no separation (this is my belief). 3) I've held my newborn sons and witnessed the beauty and perfection in life and within them I saw something so much deeper than we as adults can even begin to comprehend. That spark within them is too beautiful, too magical, to have been an accident of science. Can I prove that God exists? No I can't. I can't prove something that requires faith to know. I can point to science, but that only proves that science exists. I can point to philosophy, but that only proves that people have been questioning since the beginning of life the question of Why are we here?. I can point to the basic elements within the teachings of all religions, those similarities that exist but that only proves that there is a basic underlying belief within each that goodness and love can overcome anything. How can one prove to another that God exists, when the whole premise behind knowing God is whether you have faith or not? I can only tell why I believe. The above reasons in no way reflect everything that has happened within my life to bring me to my faith, believe me there are things that go so much deeper that I can't even begin to describe the depth of the faith that I now have and know because of my life. However, if anyone wants the indepth reasons then I will share. Otherwise I won't bore anyone with the details. But the debate isn't about whether God exists, but the concepts of Christianity versus the agnostic/atheistic views. I think that is the problem right there. To debate with a Christian, expect the Bible to be pulled into play and dogma to be the game of the day. The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. Maybe we can discuss things on another thread sometime without RS polluting the pool with her dogma. Thanks for a GREAT response! SUPERJOINT RITUAL - http://www.superjointritual.com
