It's like breaking a piñata open, you never know what's inside and by that I mean you don't know what quality dogs they used to breed your puppy. A purebred puppy should have a pedigree and you should demand to look at it well beforehand, a serious breeder plans their litters a long time and the pedigree will tell you what degree of inbreeding there is (despite the fact that there are so very many dogs available of every possible breed there is almost always inbreeding to some extent), personally for me only 0% is acceptable but many "dog people" feel that 4,25% or less is ok.
Jersey, what you REALLY should do before getting a dog is settle on a breed (Lhasa!!!!!) and then ask a breeder for some hair and skin scrapings from a dog. Then you take medical tape and tape it to your inner arm, and your daughter's, and leave it there for a couple days. It's a bit gross and not very scientific but it is the best chance you have of knowing beforehand whether your allergies will react to the breed. Shampoo and grooming also play parts, get the mutt to a groomer regularly and have them trim the dog down cos if you're not into dog shows (and we all know you aren't) then a shorter trim is much more manageable. Good luck and get the mofo Lhasa! I agree with FunkMistress Erin on the look of the others. They're horrible, absolutely horrible. Yeah but Jen do you agree with me that he will look uber Ghey walking that mofo?

Or with the dog sitting one of those doggie trimming tables in the garden, with a hairdresser's belt on with combs and a shampoo bottle and shit on a Sunday afternoon, finishing off with Erin's blow dryer

JustErin said: I'd say the Lhasa over the other two. Shih Tzus can be a little grunty and snotty and a Maltese may be a bit too delicate.
Or the cross breed. my inlaws had a maltese, and he was so grumpy and possessive he would growl at everyone who went near his master lol their current dog is a maltese/shih tzu and he is the nicest happiest little guy ever! And he just looks like a maltese, totally white and fluffy

Plus they are very very picky about their fure being dirty from what I'm told. Not to mention they are hard headed and tend to want to do their own thing. they never grow up they like to kill smaller animals like the lambs from next door my sister has one.

No dogs sweat through the skin like humans do, they all sweat only through the paws and mouth. The "dog smell" depends on many things - fur quality, diet, grooming/healthcare, whether the dog is kept indoors or outdoors and so on.
Lhasa!! You need to name it Lhasa. Totally, it works for both genders.

Buddy, thats the dog we have here, is part of a rescue, he doesnt 'belong' to us, we are fostering him until hes ready to go up for adoption One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

If you start up that road you'll end up keeping all your foster dogs and you can't have that. I know it's hard cos they all need the love but be strong and have faith that he'll find a good permanent home. You can foster MY dog for a few months, she's in heat now and being a total AIRHEAD Then she'll go into the mock pregnancy phase and just keep on being an airhead. I love Uzie but damn...
