Painting your kitchen black

Anyone seen residential homes with kitchens painted black? I have hardwood floors and am thinking about coordinating at least one black wall with some cool prints to set off my so-so countertop, the floor and my table/chair set.

Anyone seen it done tastefully?

i dated someone whose roommate was a big methhead tweaker and one night he came home at like 4 in the morning and painted their entire kitchen matte black. we found him the next morning sitting on the floor. he was crying and using a butterknife to etch the word "MENU" into a trash can lid. he was going to hang it on the wall in the new black kitchen.

the finished product did not look very nice.

I see a red stove and I want it painted black
No flower-patterened curtains with cable tie-backs anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer aprons
I have to turn my head until my toaster goes

it did give me the idea to start a quarterly crafts/home improvement magazine for tweakers - kind of like 'martha stewart living', only edited by pete doherty and courtney love.

This can ONLY work if you have TONS of natural light all day long, and lots of recessed lighting throughout the room, and high ceilings wouldn't hurt. Is your kitchen this expansive?

I get a great amount of light through my windows and door, but the ceiling is normal height. So much for the black floor tile. sigh le sigh.

Too much black, you need some contrast. If you go with with black walls, I'd do stainless steel appliances, and countertops with black in it but not as the dominant color, like a nice colorful granite. What material are you thinking of for the counters?

The idea came to me today, shortly after hitting up my third pharmacy for some behind-the-counter cold meds... lurking
