So, I'm at a Blockbuster, mindin' my own, enjoying a low-key Sunday afternoon and pickin' up a copy of that "Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem" film.

"Have you seen all the other 'Aliens' movies?" a too-chipper teenaged cashier asks me, his voice cracking as it leaves his ADHD-riddled frame.

"Why, yes, I have..." I respond, trying to let my near-silence be a guide to him:

mindin' my own, bein' low-key. Throwing a drift for him to catch.



Catch the drift.




The drift missed.



"This one picks up where the last 'Aliens vs. Predator' left off," he says, even more animated than before.

"Great," I intone, in my best Steven Wright deadpan, "like a sequel..."

"Yeah!" Oblivious Boy says, "Except, this time, they've managed somehow to --" ... and the dude proceeds to give away part of the plot.

If you're going to work at a video store, shouldn't you NOT divulge spoilers???



So, I'm trying to watch this movie without thinking every 5 minutes about what he said.

I'm in Boston Market the other day and I ask for a whole chicken meal. The genius behind the counter informs me that I can have the whole chicken but it's white meat only...minus legs and thighs.



I actually had to explain to her why it's not a whole chicken if the legs and thighs are missing. Finally she says, "oh, okay".
