i dated someone whose roommate was a big methhead tweaker and one night he came home at like 4 in the morning and painted their entire kitchen matte black. we found him the next morning sitting on the floor. he was crying and using a butterknife to etch the word "MENU" into a trash can lid. he was going to hang it on the wall in the new black kitchen.

the finished product did not look very nice.

falloff ROFLMAO!

by the way this isnt just black paint, its called Off Black.
Someone like Pratt & Lambert, Farrow & Ball, or Cole & Son Make this paint color.
I wouldn't buy this kind of black from anywhere else or you will have a ugly/gaudy mess on your hands.

http://www.farrow-ball.co...ult.aspx?= <<< look up 'Off Black'
http://www.cole-and-son.com/
http://www.prattandlambert.com/

it will be better to buy from the manufacturer than take the color chip to say like a lowes and buy a cheaper paint because they wont be able to achieve the depth, nuances and durability that the actual manufacture can because places like lowes etc. are limited in the colors they have to mix with.

biggrin

Yup. black walls can totally work when done right.

Pairing it up with dark wood would be a disaster but with whites it can look amazing.

I'd pair it up with one wall of something like this. Gorgeous.

A woman in the town where my dad grew up did that...cuz she got tired of her kids leaving fingerprints on the walls.

Everyone thought she was nuts. lol

also the adjoining room is not painted white, its more of a cream or flesh toned color with white trim.
also black is typically used to accentuate the structure, so I wouldnt go and do a bunch of little walls or spaces in the room, stick with a large unbroken surface like they have in this image.. its what allows black or dark colors to have an expansion or openness like a white room... something to think about
