IS Starving a dog to death ART?

i got this in an email today and reminded me of the one exibit in SF that was going to show footage of animals being beat to death. confused

Well, shall we start this debate up again?

THIS WILL TAKE A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME AND WILL SAVE A CREATURE – AND HOPEFULLY REMOVE THIS SO-CALLED 'ARTIST'!!!

Hi all,
this is a very serious matter...

In the 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, he tied him to a rope in an art gallery, starving him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

Does it look like art to you?

But this is not all ... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.

Let's STOP HIM!!!!!

Click on the following link :

http://www.petitiononline...-sign.html

or

http://www.petitiononline...ition.html or just copy it in your browser to sign a petion to stop him to do it again, then digit the name Guillermo Vargas Habacuc to find the petition to sign.

Please do it.

It's free of charge and it will only take 1 minute to save the life of an innocent creature.

Please also send this e-mail to as many contact as you can... Let's stop him!!!

If you want to double check all the above informations you can google the name of the 'artist' to see all I have just said corresponds to truth.

Thank you

I agree and if I walked in and saw that shit there would be a straight up brawl. I will never understand peoples indifference to animals to that degree. This is truly sick man.

both

the artist for doing it and the gallery for not stopping it

i dont know how anyone could do this to an animal disbelief

the only thing you can hope is the fact that so much attention is being put on this that he wont get away with it again if nothing else i can imagine a group like PETA would get involved with disturbing the 'art' and rescuing the dog if it did happen

sigh Yes, it's art. Whether it's good art, bad art, unethical, or good old fashioned offensive art is a completely seperate issue. See the other "Is This Art" thread for my explanation of why it's art.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

That's cool. You explained why you feel it should be considered art...taking that belief into account, that would mean that some art should not be acceptable and should be outright banned and people should be charged with whatever law they are breaking to make that so called "art" - there is no way someone should be able to get away with torture and cruelty under the guise of art.

Whether or not this is art is completely irrelevant... animal cruelty... case closed... this should not happen.

Yeah its Art if your criteria for art is any crap that ends up in an art gallery. Then yes, call it art. But that not only alienates the masses (art snobs love this) but makes a mockery of art in general. oh well..shrug

Exactly, but it doesn't mean he shouldn't have his balls put in a vice for his art! Cruelty may be art, but art is nothing to hide behind. Artists still have to pay the consequences for criminal, immoral, or cruel behavior, just like reg'lar people!!

exactly!

what if we put a father abusing his daughter in a gallery or a woman being raped in a gallery, would that be art?

i wouldn't necessarily say that; there's entire movements based on the rejection of the past conventions of the art world that the 'masses' equally reject as well (from what i've seen).

and it's about the concept, again- depictions of rape and abuse can be art in movies, for example.

Movies = Fake

Done real time in a gallery to an unwilling participant = Real + Wrong = F'D UP!

Yeah, definitely the depiction of cruel or criminal behavior is acceptable, but only as a depiction, not the actual act of harming someone or something--unless it's two willing parties and not an innocent dog.

Still I think the dog is art, it's just criminal and should be prosecuted.
