I think I've used mine since '02 started, and another Bart Simpson avatar before that. I don't know why... just his smart assyness, I guess.

Don't think you can see it, but I tattooed "Mod June7" on his ass!

Anyway... prior to that (black & purple days) I don't think we had any avatars. When I became a mod, I used the "P" logo for a bit, but went back to Bart soon after that, and am comfortable with it.

How 'bout you guys? When, Why and How long with the avatar?

I have had mine on and off for a couple of months. I change it up with different colors, though. I don't know, this is the only one that I haven't gotten tired of yet

Actually to answer June7's question, I change my avatars often, mostly cause I find them playful and fun.

I do think it makes it easier for folks to identify you if you keep the same avatar and don't change it so long as it's one that is relatively unique. 2the9's avatar is iconic, as is Anxietys, retina's, Fauxie's kitten avvie, luv4u, and sextosevens (which I believe has changed only a handful of times).

But for me, I love playing around with them cause I am extremely fickle, and I never really know what a permanent avatar of mine should even look like.

I had a Prince one for a few months when I first joined but I've had this one since that initial change...I refuse to change it, exccept for xmas time when my avatar guy gets to wear a santa hat...

I change my avatars roughly every season. I've rocked the owl over the winter, but it's time to change again soon.

I have only changed my avatar once then I changed it back because I like this one better. It is kind of like my signature, it is the first thing people notice when i post on a thread because it's big and bright.

beginning of this year one lovely orger made me 4 themed avatars that I cycle through .... LOVE.LOVE.LOVE 'm !
