As far as I know, it's still being heavily debated, along with the Bloomberg administration's plans for 125th St. Things could definitely change a lot in a couple years if both things go through. Right now, though, you can still find relatively large one-bedrooms for under $1,500, sometimes even for $1,200 or $1,300.

sextonseven said: Why are people saying NYC has crappy winters? We got NO snow this year. NONE. The temperature never goes below zero degrees F. In fact, I can count on one hand when it hit single digits this past winter. Minneapolis has crappy winters. Buffalo has crappy winters. Any eastern Canadian city has crappy winters. NYC doesn't.
If you have to wear a jacket at all--it's a crappy winter to me.

Didn't really like eithier but I would definately pick LA over New York...
San Fran seems really livable though ...and I loved vegas (for a holiday...wouldn't want to live there though)

Having been to LA several times and even more times to NYC, I have come to find out the following: LA-features: weather, beach, Mexico, Las Vegas, Sandiego (these are all relatively close). Skiing in the mountains (very close), great climate all year through (no damned cold winters!!!), entertainment, Sunsetstrip, Californian Sunset, porn-industry, friggin' Disneyland, San Francisco is relatively close, state-parks (Joshua Tree, etc).....Baja California.....you can go on! NYC: Broadway, overpriced clubs & bars that really are not that good, high-rises wherever you can see, cold atlantic winds, shite winters with lots of snow, high rents, Boston (cool town, but put that up against SF!), New Jersey ().....I am sure I can go one..... LA features: no viable public transportation, three-maybe four decent art museums, bars that close at 1am, Disneyland , and everyone seems so superficial and fake. NYC features: plenty of dive bars and low-key clubs that stay open 'til 5am or later, the worlds best subway system, Central Park!, world class museums (MoMA, Guggie, the Met), the East Coast (Rhode Island, the Cape, Jersey Shore, the Hamptons) within a few hours' train ride. If you are an outdoorsy person, I guess LA would be better because the weather is nicer longer, but New York kicks LAs ass in everything else. It's expensive as hell though; way more than LA, I'm sure.

abierman said: JustErin said: I was just kidding. But I am not talking about the weather and things to do. I was talking about the people. The vibe. The people in NYC are just as fake.....the only difference is that pace is slower in L.A., which I prefer, in NYC everybody seems to be in a rush and still think they're all so important! Who you callin' fake? You obviously been hanging out with the wrong people when you visit. But yeah, New Yorkers are always in a rush because everything in NYC is tied to $$$. In NYC time = money so the more time you waste, the more money you lose. The city is like a finely oiled machine...as long as you don't fuck up the flow, New Yorkers are nice. They only get rude to tourists who can't find their metro card at rush hour or stop in the middle of a crowded sidewalk to look at their map because that's fucking up the flow (and thus causing them to lose time and money)!

I don't know anyone who lives in Manhattan . And I liked Brooklyn, apart from the noise. It reminded me a lot of London and I love London ! The friend I stayed with just sent me a message yesterday after I haven't heard from him in a long time that he is looking for work in NY (he has been in Florida the last years I think), but I am very sure he won't move to Manhattan . I live in Manhattan! Yes, my apartment is small, but it's in a great location! Central Park is at the end of my block! Yes, it's hella expensive, but I have special circumstances because my previous rent-stabilized building was being demolished so my landlord had to buy me out. My plan is to live here for a few more years then move to Long Island City/Astoria or Brooklyn (even though I loathe Brooklyn) and keep whatever money I have left.

I am a third generation Angeleno who lives in NYC, and I will safely say that I'm openly bicoastal -- so I choose both.

DanceWme said: sextonseven said: I've wanted to do that for the longest time, but the entire subway car would have to be sterilized first. Those subway cars are NASTY. Homeless people do all kinds of business in there. I walked onto the J train once and there was a big pile of feces on the floor in front of one of the seats. I was like aw, hells naw and moved to a different car. I don't care if undercover transit cops give you tickets for that now, it was worth $70 to get outta there. It STANK. So find me a brand new clean car and I'll you in it.

I live in LA, but I have to honestly say NY is better for tourists. Plus you don't need a car in NY to get around to places like you do in LA. love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game
