I'm considering moving to the middle of nowhere. I'll build a fantastic house, buy everything off the internet, grow pot and won't have to see people. Sounds like paradise to me.

shrug

oh, I'd choose NY over LA, I hear the traffic over there is atrocious.

ahhh, in my dear old youth, I didn't give a shit about anything other than New Jersey. giggle

And Springfield, Vermont. I don't even think it's real, but it's where COBRA was based in all my G.I. Joe comics. shrug

I was stoked to move to FL, until I got here and there was NOTHING to do.

New York, hands down. LA is a smog-covered city with horrendous traffic. New York is the cultural center of the country. Plus, New Yorkers are awesome people.

lol The people in NYC are just as fake.....the only difference is that pace is slower in L.A., which I prefer, in NYC everybody seems to be in a rush and still think they're all so important!

If you're tired of fake people, come to Houston! You won't nicer people anywhere.

Or Dallas (which is prettier, cleaner and safer than Houston) which by the way supposedly has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the US (and billionaires which makes up for a lack of porn but lots of strip clubs too though boxed ). We also have all the major restaurants from LA, Vegas, and NYC. Plus, REALLY low cost of living.

I was a waitress here on and off and ALWAYS made great money. I actually quit a corporate job once because I could make more waitressing 3 nights a week while I was working on my Master's. The only drawback, no real public transpo so you WILL need a car. Dallas is in the middle of the country so you can be in NYC or LA in a 3 hour flight. And in Mexico in an 1 1/2 hours.

2005

"Legislators voted 81-58 Tuesday to approve the ban in an amendment tacked on to a bill that would revamp the state's Child Protective Services agency. The full bill was tentatively approved 126-16. Final approval was expected Wednesday.

"It is our responsibility to make sure that we protect our most vulnerable children and I don't think we are doing that if we allow a foster parent that is homosexual or bisexual," said Rep. Robert Talton, a Republican, who introduced the amendment."

126 to SIXTEEN.

Veeeeery progressive thinking Texas.

Uh, since when did the government REALLY represent the majority of the people???? George Michael and his lover have lived here for years and the last time I checked the villagers didn't run them outta town.

Dallas, Austin, and Houston have a very vibrant gay club scene, as well as art, music, and theatre scenes. Ever heard of SXSW??? Arnold is the governor of Cali and NY just removed theirs in a sex scandal. If you dig hard enough you can find crazy laws in any state in the union. Still doesn't reflect on the people that actually make their homes and lives there. Oh, and BTW Miss Texas, who is Black, was crowned Miss USA this weekend. Sounds pretty progressive to me. . . So, brick

I DO NOT want to come across as trying to get into an argument about Texas, truthfully, I'm not trying to do that. I was just poking fun at ONE aspect of the state that I find sad. I COULD bring up lots of things like how it ranks 1st in uninsured children, 2nd in birth rate, 49th in immunizations, 47th in SAT scores, 43rd in womens voter registration and 49th in womens voter TURNOUT, 1st in home insurance rates (50% higher than second place lousiana).....I could go on and on.

Point is, I'm not attacking you, I'm not. I'm sure you're totally awesome, and love the state you're in. I have NO problem with that. But I'm def. of the opinion that Texas SUCKS. It is NOT progressive, and no one other than residents of the state would argue that in my opinion. I'm just voicing that opinion. The gun comments were just me being silly me.

hug I hear ya. All I'm saying is that NO place is perfect and there are redeeming qualities everywhere. And I can guarantee that the quality of life I enjoy and the awesome, open and generous people I meet everyday in Texas I could not have if I lived in NYC or LA. A lot of people overlook the importance of that.

In general, the people you meet on the street in LA and NYC are not nice, pleasant, or polite. I don't mean after you get to know them, I mean just out and about doing stuff or shopping. I've encountered more racist attitudes and bad service trying to shop in LA AND NYC than in 25 years of living in Texas. Anytime I go to NYC people tell me to stop smiling at or looking strangers in the eye because it screams that I'm a tourist. WTF??? confused neutral

NYC vs. LA generally comes down to personal preference. I lean much more towards New York than LA, but LA is nice too. Depends on what you're looking for.

The only thing Carrie really likes about LA is me. giggle

LA ( In my opinion) is very hard to get around in and get into if you don't know folks and or the ropes. Where I find NY easy to break into as long as you don't mind a break neck pace. (Far more to do as well.)

Depends what crowd you are in. Both LA and NY are hollow and soulless on the face of it. Dig a little deeper and like anywhere else you will find fantastic people.
