I'd go to Bjork.org and just rock it. Seriously, I think we should all start a Ning community anyway. http://www.ning.com/ I just started a community for us! http://orgerswithoutborders.ning.com/

That's basically what happened back in 1995 when the moderator of the PML decided to shut it down. In less than a week, the PPML was created as a replacement, and most folks migrated to the new mailing list (which eventually evolved into prince.org). Speaking of which, does Jon Brode ever make it on here? I often wonder if he's still a fan and/or still involved in the community anymore.

I think I saw him maybe once in the #prince IRC channel, less than a year after he discontinued the PML. Since then, not at all. I’m 99% sure that Jon has never posted to the PPML or prince.org. (Or if he has, he's hasn't done so under his real name.) My memory of this is fairly vague, since we're talking about something that happened over 12 years ago, but as I recall, Jon released a statement giving his reasons for discontinuing the PML. I’ve been unable to locate a copy, but I seem to remember his reasons including dissatisfaction with the direction of Prince’s career at the time and unhappiness with many of the newbies who had been joining the list. Also, I believe he mentioned being somewhat burnt out after running the list all by himself for 5 years. UPTOWN issue #47 (April 2001) contained an interview with Jon about the PML, but I don’t have a copy, and I’ve never read it. FWIW, I Googled his name, and he’s apparently still working for the same University of Michigan office whose server was hosting the PML when I first joined. So I suppose you could email him yourself and ask. Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
