isn't he just? such a big heart He (she?) also manages to wield an impressive vocabulary, gracefully. That is no small feat. Ostentatiously wordy people annoy the shit out of me. The Normal Whores Club

Thank you to everyone who said a prayer for my mother, and/or left words of support and comfort for her, my family, and myself on this thread. I will respond later to each of you individually, but wanted to at least say a collective "thank you" now.
This site is filled with such wonderful people. I am thankful for each of you. As for my mother, I was not able to travel home to be there today, and so am relying on notifications from family/the hospital itself to inform me of developments. She was to be at the hospital late-morning to be prepared for surgery, and the surgery estimated to last approximately 90 minutes; however, it got to be late afternoon and I'd not yet heard anything from anyone, and so just a bit ago I called and spoke with a nurse who said my mother was just being brought into recovery, but could provide no further specifics. So, I do not yet know if my mother's surgery was begun later than scheduled or if there were circumstances which caused it to be longer than anticipated, nor her precise condition. I am quite stressed. It is difficult being far from family during times such as this. Thank you again, each of you, for your prayers, good wishes, and compassion, all of which is deeply appreciated.

Wow that's deep. I have a friend who waited a while for a liver. One night he saw a dream that somebody was killed in some sort of a battle and his life was spared by God because of it. He woke up the next morning and apparently a gang member was killed in the streets of LA and his liver was a perfect match for my friend. He is well and my prayers are with you and especially your mother! [Edited 4/9/08 16:14pm] To Sir, with Love

WillyWonka said: Update, 10 April PM: I spoke to my father yesterday evening. My mother had been taken into surgery at a later time than originally scheduled, which explained why by late afternoon I'd still not heard any news, and why no one I spoke with on the hospital floor could tell me anything as to her status. However, at the time I finally heard from my pops, she was in her hospital room and, though quite groggy, as comfortable as possible.
Today, however, was a rather difficult day for her -- her pain was quite bad, and so she had to be given a stronger painkiller. She was also terribly exhausted as she literally did not sleep at all last night because her blood sugars, according to the nurse, were 'out of control', which necessitated an insulin drip being started and her blood being drawn and checked every hour. She finally was able to rest mid-afternoon today. The good news is that her pain now seems to be better managed, and as of this evening, her blood sugar is back into normal range. Hopefully tonight she can sleep. Thanks again to all for the prayers, the good thoughts, and the comfort and support which you've graciously given. You've made a difference, please know that. thank you for the news hope you all get the rest you need (as i'm sure you didn't sleep either )
