Y does it say 2006 on them? Is this a misprint?

Is it the Series year? That doesn't necessarily mean it was printed that year. It's the latest version of the bill, most likely.

When it comes to US paper money, the year is usually in code on the bottom right somewhere in the sequence number.

Problem is, both the final printings of the "old" $5 note and the first printings of the new $5 bill are "Series 2006." If it's not a mistake, I don't know why they did this. Usually the Series changes whenever the design changes, even if it's just a change of signatures on the note.

I emailed the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to ask about this, and after a week, I got this one-line response:

"Please contact Mail Order Sales for further assistance."

I hate getting "canned" email responses that don't address the question asked.

I like the new 5's they really look cool, almost like play money.

I hate the new 5, the girl in rite aid gave me one I gave that shit right back, it's got a big Purple 5 on it and looks fake!

they don't work at the gas pump atm/cash machine or the laundry mat change machine, which sucks since most establihments are giving the new bills out as change.

In a few weeks, they'll quit doing this and resume filling orders with whatever they have on hand. The "old" $5 bills will slowly get pulled out of circulation as they wear out, but they should be relatively common for a few more years. And by that point, vending/change machines will have been reprogrammed to take the new bills.
