black belt and brown shoes--acceptable?

i always thought your belt and pants and shoes should match (or at least be complimentary)....is this still true?

In my eyes it is. I still have to match my shoes and handbag despite everyone telling me that's old-fashioned. lol

I think belts, shoes and bags should generally complement. Not necessarily match, but complement. Now, if you're making some statement by consciously breaking a rule, I say go for it! Just make sure there's some intentionality to it. cool

I Googled this issue, since I'm no fashion expert, and I'm curious myself whether the "keep your leather matching" rule still applies. From what I've read, most people still seem to think that black shoes with a brown belt (or vice-versa) is a no-no.

Like Lamma said, as long as they compliment. Depends on the shade of brown too, imo... generally I'd seek more "harmony" but it's not unacceptable shrug
